I love both. I think the discontinued WG GMT may become more valuable overtime. The only downside is Rolex makes a SS version of the GMT with red and blue bezel so it is not a unique look when compared to the WG Smurf where you can't get the same look with any other watch in the collection.

I really love the smurf, so that would definitely be my pick hands down. But obviously this is all very personal. They’re both great watches!

Smurf for me... maybe I'm brainwashed, but I kind of like that fact that it was the 1st cerachrom and glidelock sub. It also happens to be the 1st PM Rolex that I've tried on...

Plus its blue!

I might be biased as well since I have a 5 digit pepsi and like a bit of diversity.

Smurf absolutely. Unique look and a rare reference. As mentioned before Pepsi look now in a steel version.

GMT. But I'm not a big fan of the bright blue.
Nor bright orange. I gave away my bright orange seiko monster to my son.

That’s is a tough one for sure.

In my case, having had a 116618LB recently, I really wanted something in WG and previously had a SS Pepsi GMT which I missed. Managed to find a discontinued black dial in mint shape. I do like the blue and the meteorite dials, but the blue/red/black combo is classic Rolex. That said, had a Smurf popped up first, there’s a good chance I’d be wearing that now.

I honestly couldn’t care less if they make a SS Pepsi now. You’re buying it for how it feels on your wrist and SS just doesn’t “feel” like gold.

Frankly the only thing that could make this GMT better would be glidelock clasp from a Smurf installed on it. Anyone know where I could get one? :)

Love them both. I’ve had the Smurf for several years. The GMT meteorite was my grail and I spent years tracking one down from an AD as I refused to buy it grey.

Have you actually seen the meteorite dial or blue dial in person? Because I think if you did, you would trade it for either or. Or at least I definitely would. I may be one of the few rare people here that may say this but if I had to pick one to keep and wear, I’d pick the blue dial over meteorite dial. But if it was for a black dial pepsi, I’d rather keep the blue sub.

+1. I think most would if secondary market value was the same.

I own the meteorite GMT, and it is my favorite watch at the moment. I would without question get the meteorite dial over the black or blue GMT.

On my list for “next” watches is the smurf—but if push came to shove, and I could only have one, it would be the meteorite GMT.

This thread was from March 2020. I’d imagine the OP made a decision awhile ago….
