First Rolex, authentication help? 1601

I bought my very first Rolex recently from an online seller over eBay. Fully aware of the risks, but thoroughly doing my homework on the watch as well as the seller, I went ahead and purchased it after winning the auction. I paid ~$1750 CA. for it, and it seemed fair compared to the going prices of similar watches. The serial number fits with the advertised production date of 1977, and the movement seems to match as well, but I have yet to have it professionally authenticated. The seller has a return policy, but I was wondering if I could get a quick opinion on here before taking it somewhere to have it looked at. The watch itself is in beautiful condition, and runs very well.

At the same time I was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere I could go for authentication. I live in Toronto, Ontario, but is there anywhere that will do it besides RSC?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks very much. That gives me a bit more peace of mind. Even fourth and fifth opinions would be great.

Probably about time for a service, if the last one was in April '99.

Aside from that, you've got a winner there

Great looking watch.

A good local AD should be able to authenicate it and service it as well. Not being from that area, I really don't know who. However you could go tothe Rolex website and find a local AD in your area.

Watch looks fine great movements the 15 series, but it would have had a bracelet originally. And looking at the watchmaker service mark 4-99 on case back thats a plus sign its genuine.

Did you end of having it looked at for authenticity? Also do you mind sharing who you bought from? I just purchased one on ebay as well and am having the same questions.
Thanks.

Both watches in my avatar are 1500/1570 Dates. This one is 1570 caliber movt--one of the best Rolex movements. Datejust model: $1750 price is OK, but worth more with Jubilee band.

Wow, that is a wonderful 1601! Priced ok as well. Nice one.
Looks all ok to me.
I really love that unique black dial, and those stick markers are so cool.
Congrats on the purchase.

Take it up to Woodbridge, to Damiani Jewelers (Weston/Hwy7). They are a authorized Rolex Service Center, and Chonger the watchmaker will take care of you if you need anything.
Send me a PM if I can help in anyway.

Cheers
Jeff

Thanks for the comments everyone. I've had the watch for a couple of months now though, and have no doubt about it's authenticity anymore. Hopefully I'll have it for a long time to come, among many other great watches!

Thanks.

That black leather strap goes very well with the dial as someone already said.

Classy watch and definitely looks great! Enjoy.

Wow, thanks for all the great comments once again. I certainly did not expect this thread to burst back to life all of the sudden! It's usually only the SS sport models that get all the attention around here, haha.
