The Hamilton Murph - Wrist check...

So I finally got to try one on. What do you think? A good fit - or not?

Love the no date dial and build quality...questioning the size. At 42mm with a long L2L, it gives me pause.

I’d also have to switch out the fake Gator strap.

It’s good looking but I also question the size.

I love everything about this but the size. I know it’s “what the movie had” but a 40mm or less would have been outstanding. On your wrist it doesn’t look bad at all. Let us know if you decide to pull the trigger!

Thanks Jonathan.

I’m really torn.

That clean no-date matte dial is really nice. The case finish is brushed - not that bead-blasted look that the 38mm no date field watch has.

So many pluses...That said, it feels borderline size wise - or should I say long lug-to-lug length.

The price is high for a Hamilton, but a fraction of new Rolex or other brands.

You think it would shrink if I washed it in hot - with my whites?

You hit the nail on the head perfectly. SO many good things about this reference but the lug to lug is on the long side. Is it singing to you at all?
Love the idea of washing it!

It sings like crazy...but it’s feeling borderline L2L. My 44mm Panerai seems to fit a smidge smaller, and my Speedmaster Pro feels on par. I should do some side by side pics with the Speedy.

If you can, get some pics of not “wrist up, face on” as well. Since I feel like a straight pic of the watch on the wrist sometimes lies on how it really looks.

That’s a idea...wish I had taken some side views of The Murph.

I think it looks too big. Have you tried the 40mm panda chrono by Hamilton?

Yes!

See below.

Definitely a better fit...at about 2X MSRP.

Long lugs with a thin junky OEM strap is the problem here..

What is the lug size? The dreaded 23mm Hamilton special?

The lugs on the Murph are 22mm. On the Chrono they’re 20mm.

I agree. Maybe a more bolstered strap would do the trick? The lug spacing is a reasonable 22mm, but way better than any non-standard size Luke the 23mm.

Enable miuch?

Thanks. I am debating this Vs. the Chrono. LOVE this no-date / matte dial.

Bolstering is the thickness of the leather in the middle of the strap. The one that’s on it shows minimal bolstering. Where if you search around, you could find some nice leather options with a larger bolster that could help give a cleaner look to the watch.

It's a nice looking watch and a neat idea with a very cool box but it's definitely on the large side and a bit pricey. I think you can pull it off but it's right on the line. A better strap would probably help. Overall, though, I think the chronograph is a better fit, a much better watch, and a much better value.

Got it.

Yes. Not a fan of the fake Gator it comes with...but a genuine article would boost the price. I have a great bespoke strap maker - Aaron at Combat-Straps.com who could do a proper Gator for ~$300.

However, there may be some pre-made options - though 22mm is not a standard width.

Thanks much. The Chrono is definitely pricier at $2,195 MSRP Vs. $995. An AD once offered me 20% off the Chrono around the holidays, but I did not go for it...

The dial and the hands work so perfectly together. My all-time-favorite dial and hands in the Khaki collection, for sure.

I used to wear this one every now and then, but let it go in a recent trade because it really wasn't getting out and worn as much as it deserved. I'm leaning toward this new Murph.

I think it looks great and it fits well. Get a better strap on it and I bet it will work better for you. My AD does not have this watch but I look forward to seeing it when they get it in. Also, the margins are very good with Hamilton and your AD can provide a good discount if they so choose.

I imagine once the non-special edition box version has been out a while that there may be some discounts. I did not ask about the Murph but this particular AD wasn’t taking orders.

I am betting down the road there will be deals.

Having the commemorative display box from the movie might help selling in the future...a little anyway.

Thanks for the observation on the fit! I’m still not sure to be honest. This 38mm time only piece (below) fit better, but the lugs are still fairly long...and I’m not a fan of the bead blasted finish.

The “LE” air around the Murph - if you call 2,000 something of the first batch or so watches coming in a special lucite box truly a LE - May prevent some discounting.

Love this white dial version of 38mm field watch.

I loved interstellar but I'm not too keen on the size of the murph, would have been perfect at 38mm IMO.
