What's YOUR watch collecting, following, WIS, observation of 2017?
Was thinking about my main 'wow' or 'wtf?' moment of 2017 would be.
With out a doubt, it was the Newman Daytona, but many said it was going for stupid money anyway. No surprise really since breaking $10m was the mic drop moment. Having said that, my personal takeaway in real world wis stuff was Omega. Especially the continuous slow, but steady Omega Speedmaster Professional work. It's a big5 chronograph option and I think we'll see a platinum one as a permanent addition next year. Omega also looks to be going all in on e-commerce. It'll be a good 2018. What's your 2017 takeaway? |

Brands are consolidating or getting rid of AD's to control pricing. Less discounts overall.

I would have to say I noticed continued stress on the fine-watch industry over all. Basel will be smaller, companies are cutting back. I really hate to say this, but I feel it is inevitable that our hobby will gradually continue to decline and someday be a very specialized niche. We have had countless discussions on this topic but I have personally seen it more evident this year: Young people do not treasure owning a fine watch like a Rolex. There are exceptions of course, and Rolex, Omega, PP will all be around for a long time, but in general, our passion is in decline.
That’s MHO anyway. |
