Hhhmmmmm. I say let the Rolex pass naturally. If you decide to shoot the bear there is a chance the bullet could hit the Rolex on its way through the bear. Then again if it passes naturally the bear could s**t on a rock and the Rolex could be damaged. Is it safe let a bear s**t out a Rolex?

If none are at risk, then no dilemma exists.

Therefore, my vote is for allowing the bear's digestive system to do it's work. The Sub will survive the passage and eventually be found in the woods by a tracker or wandering minstrels or Little Red Riding Hood no worse for wear. That's the important thing.

And bravo to Abdullah for sneaking in the Post of the Year with only a couple days to go in 2016 Corn stubble and hydroplaning...pure gold.

For the dilemma, let the bear live as he/she provided us a great service. Retrieve the Sub when it is time.

Looks like tracking the bear is the right thing to do.

I sense the next is it safe thread right there............do you think it matters what Rolex? Cellini or Oyster case? Datejust or Day Date? Sub or GMT? We really need to narrow this down and get it right. None WIS will be counting on us.

To know the future is to be trapped by it

I think with an oyster case it's the watch equivalent of civet coffee. The digestive processes will add a lovely patina, but the movement will be fine. We can test this by feeding submariners to captive bears for a few months and presenting the watches at Beselworld 2017 as designer upgrades, for $18,200 each.

The Cellini would likely be scarred. And leather or textile bands (NATO) will likely be digested or rendered unwearable . This BTW, is the definitive answer to the NATO versus bracelet argument - the bracelet will not be damaged if the wearer is consumed by a wild bear.

So if I care to be kind to those who may find my secreted Rolex I must always wear it on a bracelet. Go it.
Now what about the cellini maybe just seeing a nice patina to the dial and needing a movement service. I hear some types of patina make a dial worth more.

Was this the same bear ? I doubt if you'll catch him. He's pretty quick on his feet.

Ha! That is some CrAzY stuff.

I was having lunch and asked a gentleman at the table next to me what he thought of the Rolex Dilemma. He said, "I don't care about any of this and my watch is a knock off" I went back to my table upset that I was fooled by his Sub and that he was not a WIS.

Back to the dilemma... I would not kill the bear to get the watch. You might follow him for awhile and see if he $hits in the woods. People seem to as me that question all the time. If you happen to find out please let us know.

What, you mean the story isn't true and it's all made up?

I can't think how on earth I managed to miss this thread last year. Unbelievable! Must've had another brain fart or something

Abdullah, wait no more. Fit the bear into the driver seat and assist said bear into another similarly sized pine tree; guide the bear to collide with said pine tree with just enough impact to deploy the driver side airbag, then retrieve Submariner.

Godspeed.

And now that this is old advise, let's see some pics of this Submariner!
