Kari to be CEO of Urban Jurgensen

Interesting move. Kari has historical ties to the brand, so this is a coming home of sorts. I think this will give some much needed recognition to the UJ brand name among WIS. As an admirer and owner of the brand, I'm excited to see what this brings.

Hahaha, no worries.

Interestingly too, UJ have completely scrubbed their IG of previous posts.

"In order to make 2023 as exciting as possible, we are transitioning our manufacture over to developing and producing the new collections of watches that will be unveiled for our 250th anniversary."

Sounds like they're going to redesign the brand and all of the current stuff will probably be discontinued. New collection to be introduced in 2 years time.

I am very excited about this. I'm hoping they put out a small-ish case size and also hoping my income evolves appropriately in the meantime

So then would you buy a UJ now? Or wait for the new watches under the new manufacture? Will the current UJ pieces go up or down in grey market value? Interesting to think about.

UJ's dress watch lineup was pretty good. If I had the money I would definitely consider one.

I think their steel sports model One was a big miss. I tried it on and the watch was just too bulky for what it was.

The 40mm 1140 case wears pretty compact, but agree. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing if they put out a 38mm case.

It’s an interesting thought. If I were to bet, I’d say certain pre-Kari models will appreciate in value. I don’t expect drastic changes to the UJ design, Kari’s design philosophy was influenced by his time at UJ and he’s generally conservative/traditional in his styling as well.

Confirming chatter that was circulating in Geneva during watch auction season two weeks ago, Urban Jürgensen & Sønner (UJS) has been taken over by a group of investors with Kari Voutilainen at the helm.

Kari, contact me please :)

I have always admired their watches from afar. Interesting and I can see similar design cues between UJ and Kari which could make this interesting. Having said that I find it extremely weird that they just deleted all their instagram posts and that their website has no watches on it, just the announcement.

I want in ASAP.

This is great news.

UJS has struggled over its history and, apparently, died once again. But, this time it looks to rise better than before.

This is exciting for Urban Jurgensen and as a WIS, I'm excited to see what Kari brings out in 2023 (it will no doubt be great) under the UJ brand.

Saying that, I've been holding back on buying an Alfred (Urban Jurgensen SS piece with teardrop lugs) for a couple years with the justification that "it will be there and will be available, as it's not a hyped up watch" and now this happens...sure, not hyped, but no longer available (new). Patience really doesn't pay, at least not now, in this market

I don't see a scenario under which pre-Kari model would see an appreciation following this announcement. Either Mr. V. manages to "relaunch" and accelerate the brand, and people will want those newer models, or he can't do that, and the name will not gain any further credibility (and might in fact lose some).

I already emailed in an order. Have faith Kari will do right, so ready to buy sight unseen.
