What was your first watch and do you still have it?

I believe mine was a kool aid watch I got when I was 7. I don’t remember any before that. Just found it in a box in my mom and dads attic.

So, show us or tell us all about your first watch!!

A Timex when I was about 10 years old, and No, I don’t have it anymore. My first nice watch, as an adult was a Seiko. Moved on to Tag Heuer, then Omega.Eventually I got a Rolex OP from 1958, which my son wears Daily. Currently , I own about 50 watches, mostly Seiko’s.

I don't remember the exact watch - it was a long time ago.

I do remember that it was on an expansion bracelet. I was trying different wrists, face inside (which was common then) or out, and so on.

I did learn while playing baseball that a right hander should not wear a watch on the wright wrist. I was playing second base, and made a hard throw to first.... the watch got there just shortly after the ball!!!

My first expensive watch was in the 60's, a Lanco Chrono. This was during the period when Lanco was owned by Omega/Tissot company.

I still have it.

What was your first watch and do you still have it?

My first watch as a kid was a Timex with Arabic numbers then my grandfather passed away and I wore his Mido Multifort Automatic that I broke. Not the best watch for a kid. Moved to Swatches then a Swiss Army. First real watch was my grandfather’s all original 5513 I got when I graduated college and it sits atop my entire collection today. My grandmother bought me a TAG when I graduated college which I still have.

I wish I did, it was a Hamilton, given to me by my father when I was eight years old. It started this ridiculously expensive addiction to fine watches. The first I purchased myself was a Seiko 6139, cost me $95 in the 70s. I was 14 and worked and saved like crazy for it. I wish I still had them both.

This one really counts as my “ first watch”

And then I sold it because I’m an idiot……

A digital timex with a velcro strap as far as I can remember when I was a kid... but my first serious watch was a DJ with a fluted bezel my father gifted me while traveling abroad with him, I barely got to see him so it meant a lot. I was in high school at the time, and barely wore it except on weekends. One Saturday I was playing soccer with friends and set it down by the goal post so it wouldn't get damaged. Completely forgot I had brought it, and left. Realized when I got home ... but it was gone when I went back to look for it. I can still picture it on the grass, right where I left it.

That’s a sharp watch! I lost a citizen water skiing when I was about 16. Makes me sick to this day to remember it flying off my wrist when I went down trying to slalom a little too slow.

I don’t recall as it was a L. O. N. G. time ago. I do know that I was referred to as “That kid that always wear a watch.”

I don’t know what attracted me to wearing one at such a young age. My father was a watch wearer, maybe that’s it.

That was my first watch too! I believe I was in first grade when I started wearing that transformer watch. I then had some swatches from 4th grade to my freshman year in HS, them had a Benetton watch, a Guess, Fossil until I graduated HS. Wore a timex during college and then have been wearing Tag Heuer, Omega, Rolex and Panerai

Great thread:

My first watch was some green rubber Tag Formula 1 lookalike that I got in 4th grade. I remember it well and wish I had it.

My first watch > $100 was a quartz Burberry fashion watch. I gave it to my FIL.

My first automatic watch was a Tag 2000. I still have, and wear, it.

I’m seeing a lot of Timex as first watch. I have owned a few Timex in my life., the “Indiglo” was the coolest thing in the 90’s. Who would have thought that these brands would have pushed us to appreciation for the higher end brands we all enjoy now on this forum? Looking back at my 7-8 yr old self or any age really before 25 I personally would have thought owning and wearing a Rolex or the like was a pipe dream. I wanted one since I was 12 or so but never thought it would actually happen.

Oh man. That may be my first watch as well. Lost it in 1st grade in the sandbox, somewhere. That’s awesome.

It’s a mystery to me as well! I’ll take a closer look once I dig it out of storage (that pic is about six months old). The watch still works!

Haven’t had it since for decades, long gone. It was a cheap Timex given to me by my parents as a First Communion gift. I was in 2nd grade at the time.

First real watch was a mid-80s Seiko Quartz with leather band. Received it from my father after my Casio died from the water. My father thought as a 16 year old its time to transition to a different line of watches and handed one down.

Unfortunately no longer have it as I destroyed the watch going for a block playing in an pickup game (slammed wrist to backboard on a chase down a la Lebron block with the dial facing me). 99 times out of a 100 I would take the watch off before playing but it was one of those spur of the moment events I still regret to this date. Needless to say the watch was retired in game.

I am sure I had watches before it but the first watch I recall was a Mets gold tone Casio digital I got for Easter in 1990 or so. Growing up in Jersey as an Italian I recall my uncles all wearing gold watches and I wanted to be just like them.
