'68 Speedmaster - amazing condition

From another forum, reposted because it needs to be. It is said to have been only worn sparingly since new:

Sweet. That's easily one of the best preserved examples I've ever seen! Lots of old Speedmasters are pretty cruddy by now.

Any other details about it? Not to argue, but I would wager the inside of the case-back is marked reference 145.012 - 67, indicating it was cased and shipped from the manufacturer in '67. If so, then it's a Caliber 321 watch.

It's a stunner! Thank you for sharing it with us

I second that, one of the best condition vintage speedys i've ever seen. Thanks for sharing!!

Its just gorgeous, i suspect that guy from surrey, uk (forget his name) - might end up with this in his VERY extensive speedmaster collection.

It was the watch of someone either involved in the space program, or an enthusiast back in the day. It is said to be a transitional pre-moon and has been residing in a safe in the original box for 50 years. I don't know anything else about it. I asked what the back looked like and this is what he reported:

I cannot believe the conditoon, it’s clearly unworn and the caseback looks like a service replacement. But obv isn’t.

I couldn’t even price that.

Ps If this was something like a 64-68 steel bezel in this condition with the 321 it’s 100k+ GBP

The original owner is still living and bought it in 1968 for $168.

Interesting. A '68 transitional watch would house Caliber 861, but I would have thought those all would have had the newer version of the chronograph sweep hand (this one has the older version of the chronograph sweep hand).

Let's not ask him to crack it open and show us which caliber is in it .

At any rate, it's fantastic to see it, and I'm glad you posted it here

I don't think the guy is "like us", but he knows it's a very unique piece.

Is that a dare?
