An AD has agread to take my 1988 16013 DJ in exchange for brand new tudor north flag

An AD has agreed to do a straight up swap for my bi-metal 1988 datejust in exchange for a brand new Tudor north flag.

I'm exchanging the Rolex because my active lifestyle doesn't suit the the datejust, the plexi glass is all scratched up the jubilee bracelet is stretched and getting worse as time goes on and i've not had it serviced in over 7 years.

whats your views on the north flag good watch or bad watch in terms of accuracy and reliability also is it strong enough to go in a sauna or jacuzzi

cheers

Personally if you've got the funds add a bit to it and get the Rolex Explorer I. I am obviously biased as it is the Rolex I have :P but it is awesome!
Also what version of north flag? Is it this one? And if it is... tbh it looks great! the yellow is a taste thing, but if you're keen. Go for it

No way I would make this trade.

Privately sell your DJ for 3-3.5k (euro/pound) and get the Tudor or something else that fits your lifestyle.

Or keep the Rolex (did you buy it new or inherited it) and add a G-shock or similar if you go hiking, biking and swimming.

Why anyone would want to wear a watch in the sauna is beyond me. WR is 100M, if there's a situation where you absolutely have to wear it in a hot-tub I'm sure it would be fine.

Movement is the MT5621 which is basically the same as the MT5612 with the addition of a power reserve indicator. The MT5612 I had in my Pelagos performed very well, ran at +1 sec/day on average and held the advertised 70 hour reserve without issue.

Obviously you could do better on the trade if you sold the DJ yourself and then acquired the North Flag independently. That being said, considering that the DJ probably needs a service and it is well worn, I would say that the trade is not horrendous. The assumption for this statement is that a 16013 DJ in top shape can sell for $4,500-5,000 and a new North Flag can be had for $3,200. Once you adjust for the DJ conditions, I think you are paying ~$500 for the exchange, which is not bad in my opinion considering that you don't have to go through the hassle of getting the DJ serviced, selling it, etc.

I am sure that the North Flag can serve you well in terms of functionality, so this is purely about style and money. If you dig it and you are OK paying the little premium (explained above), it is definitively a GO!

Ah, new piece of information. Keep in mind that your watch might have appreciated a bit. In any case, if you just look at how much you paid for it, the trade seems cash flow neutral for you.

I owned the North Flag. Great watch that kept great time. It was about -2 sec a day and extremely consistent. Loved the power reserve.

I traded it on for an Explorer, but I'd have no hesitation owning one again.

Personally, I would add the Tudor and make it my "do everything" piece. (Even wear it in the sauna. )

Then I would spend the money and get the DJ all spruced up. Then keep it tucked away for those special occasions and nights out on the town.

My two cents.

Bad trade...North Flag's are very easy to get. Bail and get a luminox or marathon for the suana and keep the classic DJ.

I think that’s a tough, durable watch that would hold up to the sauna or jacuzzi without an issue. Do you like the North Flag? I think it’s a cool watch, and may have bought one except for the color. I’m just not a yellow guy. As others have mentioned you might be able to get more on a private sale.

Exactly! Sleep with the idea, wait, and it will disappear. Do not do it. Clear enough ? :)

Adding another +1 for this. I would not make that trade.

I’ve had my north flag for three months and love it. I just had the leather band put on (I got both, metal and leather). It’s like having two cool new watches. As others have said, the 70 hour power reserve is real, and the PR indicator is new to me, cool, and useful.

Can’t speak to the trade, but I do love the north flag!

Good luck!

I really wouldn't do the trade either. I know it's hassle but you are better off shopping some greys and seeing what you can get best price for the Rolex DJ.

Trade an old watch you don't enjoy wearing for a new watch you like? That's a no-brainer. Go for it!

I would not do this trade.

I would send the Datejust to RSC for service and buy the North Flag for the activities you want to do

I won’t. I’d have the DJ serviced and tucked away. And if need be the DJ is as tough as any watch out there.

If you really have to have a “sauna” watch then add the NF.

if you prefer the watch i dont see how it matters what brand you are trading for.

Probably people who would never dream of owning a TT watch would still keep it anyway.

OP should just head to the money tree in the backyard and harvest enough to pay for the service and a new watch.

If he's not wearing the watch, or he is and he doesn't enjoy it then he should do the trade if he's happy with the terms.

Definitely get rid of the clunky old watch and get new. A new watch is like a new car...it just feels great. Tudor North Flag is an excellent watch and you will not be disappointed.

Or save the money until he has it.

Not everything has to be about instant gratification despite what the internet tells some people.

I have handled the north flag several times and tried to like it. To my it comes across as a very cheap watch. I would prefer a $300 Seiko.
