Newbie Q, 116613LN 2014 vs 2018

Good morning all,

After much deliberation I have decided on the black TT submariner as my next watch.

I’ve managed to find a UK dealer with one in stock and was ready to bite the bullet however I’ve been offer a 2014 model (mint) for a £1400 saving from a reputable contact..

My question is a relatively simple one which no doubt will be answered in 30 seconds.. is there any difference between the 2014 model and this years?

No difference to the best of my knowledge, but experts here on this forum can correct me if I am wrong.

However the 5 year warranty that comes with the new one and the sense of orig ownership is well worth the difference in my opinion.

Any differences would be cosmetic, such as slight changes in font on the dial. The model has not changed appreciably since its debut in 2009.

As Faz notes, however, the 2014 watch would have no warranty (unless it's sold by a dealer providing its own), and the new watch would have a full, five-year factory warranty.

Choices choices. Either way enjoy whichever you go with. A great start to your Rolex journey.

For me, aside for the warranty, the knowledge that is has never been someone else's watch would be the deciding factor.

Depends what watches you have. If its your first Rolex I would stump up the extra for the new one, if not £1,400 is a reasonable saving but bear in mind you will probably be servicing it earlier.

I actually changed my mind last minute and found a London’s a dealer with a new one in stock and bit the bullet!

It made me laugh when ringing around, some telling me that there’s no chance ahead of the increase on Monday and some telling me 10-12 month waiting list!

I collect her tomorrow and couldn’t be more excited! My name on the papers and the warranty swayed me!

As others have said, no appreciable difference. I would just add, be careful of the word "mint." More and more it seems, that word is getting thrown around here describing watches that are not mint by any stretch of the imagination. If it's not mint, that savings is a non-starter for me, IMO.

I used a wooden toothpick to get off one of the tiny stickers my AD missed on delivery. You do not want to scratch that beauty (although, it will eventually happen).

As for scratches.. I hear you. I wear cuff links on a daily basis so the mirror finish will have surface rubbing scratches in no time. Happened on my Panerai so I’ve just learnt to accept it.

Is it sad that I’m looking forward to the weekend to unleash it with a casual outfit rather than a suit? 🤣😂
