Tips for Watches in Safe

I just noticed in the Milan thread, the AD keeps all of the watches with the crown out (at least in the display). My pieces in the safe are all crown in.

Are there best practices around keeping a watch in the safe? Ex. crown in vs crown out?

Here's the photo -

Apparently a few days ago, and they are all sold, dealer puts them out even though sold. It was after a refurb of the store so must have just been for a day or so before people picked them up.

I’d keep the crown screwed in always, not overly tight, just screw in and don’t over tighten the crown....safe or no safe and you’ll be golden

However i think it looks stupid with the crown out for the purpose of achieving an aesthetically pleasing dial as the entire watch looks off as a result. Counter productive if you ask me.

i don't know what's best, but crown out in storage feels wrong. All mine are screwed down as much as possible.

crown in is the safer option to avoid anything entering the watch

There was a thread the other day, saying not to do that. I think his name is "Bas", he works for Rolex as a watchmaker I presume.

Anyway the jist of what he said was, don't screw it down to the absolute limit, you will overtime damage the mechanism "tube" I think it was called. Just screw it down so its flush with the case, dont over tighten.

If the movements have some wind in them, not sure it is good to have them hacked for long periods of time. Moreover, if one of those is accidentally dropped and lands on the open crown, ouch! Damage. FWIW I would not buy from an AD who did this with their pieces!
