Daytonas- difficulty

Hi everybody,

First post here, been lurking a few months though 😀

I’m really into the Daytonas, what I’ve understood is that the stainless steel is a tough one to get your hands on. (Ofc the green dial and platinum also)

But after that one, which Daytonas are easier to get? I guess the oysterflex is one of the easiest Daytonas to get? What’s your thoughts on this?

One of the best ways to know how hard something is to get is to look at the grey market price.

If it’s a lot over retail it’s hard. Best bet is a two toned Daytona. The others very hard unless big spender on non rolex.

Cool thanks, and where can I see the retail price? Cause on Rolex website not all models show the prices.

Would you say that a PM Daytona is harder then oysterflex?

TT Daytonas are pretty easy and imo underrated, they look fantastic.

Other than that. Ask your AD what they can deliver. Depends on the yearly allocation.

Oysterflex will probably be the next easiest as a lot of people can’t bring themselves to pay thah much for something on rubber. I’d say the exceptions here are probably a couple of very popular wg and yg configs.

Your best bet is to ask some ADs.

Well in the real world the SS Daytona has always been hard to get at retail ever since launch way back in 2000, back then you could almost buy the TT Daytona for what the SS Daytona was selling for on grey market, great movement but must be the most hyped Rolex watch ever. Today many buy the hype to wear it, and now mainly because of the hype they bring crazy money on the likes of the grey market. Today Rolex watches have to some become little more than £$€ object things and little more, now sold to the highest bidder.

Some sites like Watchfinder will show the original retail price. Pre ceramic bezel Daytona is my personal favourite. Can try chrono24, go low to high in price you'll see lot of TT Daytonas at the lower end price wise

Have you spent a dime at an AD? Or are you willing to pay over retail? If so, it will be easier.

You are not going to walk into any AD these days and get a Daytona of any type without spend history. Go grey

Get it, which configs are the most popular on the oysterflex?

Recommend for what? Are you using the chronograph to time things?

Check out chronographs from other brands. A lot more for buck for the money in my view. They are available and many do not have screw down pushers and have much better legibility.

Two Tone Daytonas easiest, PM or Oysterflex harder to get,
116508 YG green + 116506 Platinum + SS Daytonas you should be one of the best clients of your AD

With no purchase history you might get lucky with a two tone.

The TT Daytona is the “easiest” to get but it’s still a hell of a uphill battle to even be considered for the TT Daytona. That said, the TT Daytona is stunning and shouldn’t be dismissed if a Daytona is on your radar.

TT daytonas easiest to get. But seems harder last couple years.

Precious metal daytona still difficult, but there are so many dial and metal variations. If you're open, you'll get something in time when someone passes on it. But some dealers make it a policy to not offer anything a new customer didn't request (down to the dial).
