Thanks for the feedback, guys. I bought my SD43 in May 2017 !

By "better" movement I meant more advanced (better accuracy, more shock resistance, protection against magnetism, power reserve).

I don't see it as a threat to the Sub anymore, its size and height is a hindrance to many folks. Personally though I find the SD43 more satisfying on the wrist, prefer its matte textured dial (almost tropical) and the tapered lugs.

I resisted buying a submariner for 10 years as I was always underwhelmed by the size and bracelet compared to my own 42-44mm pieces.

The moment the SD43 was announced at Basel, I knew it was the one!

So on a personal note, the SD43 has had an impact on Sub sales … no matter how microscopic my purchase on the grand scale of things.

I’m still stuck in the past and can’t get over the “bigger is better” speed bump.

If the movement fits in a 36mm case - or max. 40mm case - I don’t need the bulk of the taller, wider, heavier 43’s.

Had the old 16600 like Peter and didn’t see a need for bigger myself. It’s gone but the 16613 I now have fits just fine.

How is that an impact on Sub sales...? You never bought one in 10yrs, you would never have bought one. New model comes along and you buy that one...
Not an impact on Sub sales at all.

No....

Not everyone likes the 43mm you know. Modern day mid size is the max for me. 38-41mm

I was half taken by my mates ceramic Sub with better bracelet and Glidelock … although I admit I was leaning towards the SD4000 instead.

For what it's worth I think the Deep Sea will suffer more than the Sub in terms of lost sales.

I hate to bring up the scarcity card, but, I think availability of either model will be a stronger influence of what sales will be. If it takes six months to get a Sub, a readily available Sea Dweller becomes much more appealing and vice versa.

I have a 7.5" wrist, so, for me, the SD43 was the better choice (although I also own and love a bluesy sub), but I'm in the minority.

Completely different watch, different price point, different wrists benefit from each differently. SD be way too much (price, size, depth rating) for some.

Just different watches that do different things.

The sub is an icon that’s not going anywhere.

No. The 40mm Sub is the classic and has better thickness for fitting under shirts. The Sea Dweller and DSSD are more casual watches meant for casual wear. I think Deep Seas look ridiculous paired with suits. There is really no need for a watch that thick that will never be used for its intended purpose other than for collection.
