ExpII. I just picked mine up a fee days ago (black dial) and haven't been dissapointed. Very comfortable to wear a day long. The size isn't as big as people make it seem. I have a 7.25'' wrist.

I think the DJ is the best all round watch if you wear coat and tie or jeans, it works with both. But you should really try both on and see which you like best.

If I had to get an Expy, I'd get the older 40" model.

Both are fantastic watches. Have you considered the Explorer I (214270). You get the best of your two options: a Go Anywhere, Do Anything watch, plus an unmatched exploration DNA. A fantastic first Rolex

DJ for me. Going to buy it soon. But I would suggest you to try both he watches and then decide which one suits you more.

If you use the GMT function Explorer II, but for an attractive white dial watch I’d chose the Date-Just

I hope he made the decision already, it's been a year and a half since he asked.

Explorer II (white dial) looks good to me. Maybe because I own it and I'm somewhat partial for it.

Current Polar Explorer II is a favorite of mine. 42mm fits very well on my 7” wrist. Simple bezel, white dial are great. If there was a dateless version I would purchased that. Don’t need to know the date. Love my no date Submariner for that reason.

You should try on both since they are such different watches and you will likely know which one if for you when you have it on. Best to you!

An ideal first Rolex watch would be an all-time classic, like the Submariner or GMT-Master. It will fit most people perfectly

The company that would go on to become Rolex started life in London's Hatton Garden in 1905. Established by Bavarian entrepreneur Hans Wilsdorf

I would choose Explorer II, but this is really a question of wrist size to me. Do you have watches you wear now that are 42mm (vs. 36mm on the DJ)?

Also, as others have said, the best way to answer the question is to try them on. If you are in NYC I can confirm that Wempe and Bucherer have both watches available to try on (though not to purchase, of course). One will likely speak to you, and if not, feel free to ask the opinion of the sales associate, who sees a lot of watches being tried on and probably has a good idea of what fits/doesn't fit your wrist. Good luck and enjoy!

This is a good act by them that someone can select watch for him by trying.
It's ok if they don't have watchers to buy one can buy that from other ways as well.
