PAM Decision

Hello friends .. in the end I decided to buy a Panerai. I like the models PAM 005, PAM 111 and PAM 113 but I was reading the specifications and did not find difference and the PAM 05 is the cheapest of the three. Even I'm going to start selling my Sub.16610 almost new because if not I have to divorce. I was watching the PAM 164 also but not ... not sure if with date is so fashion or representative of this brand. I think that the PAM 05 I think is the better choice...
Besides the 164 was not on the list I was suggested days ago by Mik (Mfer) and I realized that he is a expert of Panerai. Are saying?
Good week-end

Expert? Nah, just a chump who loves simple watches done well.

If you love Arabic numbers than go for the 164. I have a friend who does and he had a 164 then 104 and realized he loves the numbers and went to a 359 now. Think he's content. Also, Cru has a 164 and he loves it. That is one of the cool things about Panerai. Many subtle variations.

Diff between 005 and 111/113 are as such:
111/113 have swan neck regulators on the movements. This makes is easier for a watch makers to adjust the timing. A 005 doesn't have this but it can still be adjusted, just more work for the watchmaker.
The 111/113 have sapphire display backs. The 005 is SS. As a result the 005 will be slightly thinner. I can confirm this in the was my 111/390 fit. On the same strap, my 390 is looser due to caseback being solid on the 390.
I think the movement in the 111/113 is more decorated as well seeing how it is a display back.
Now the 111 is a sandwich dial if you get a H or newer. The 005 is an applied dial like the 113. Just preference here as to which you like.

All movements of these 3 watches are ETA 6497.

Hope that helps.

Mik covered the technical side well. I would just add, consider getting the PAM you like most and not what you think is most representative of the brand. In the end, both of those evaluations are subjective, and I'm pretty sure the former will give much greater long-term watch happiness.

005 is good, but do take a look a while longer for 000,111 and 112. those 4 PAMs are the ultimate first Panerai to some of the members here.

If you love dials and love to look at them more often than get the 005 and the logo on the dial looks cool too.
