Tudor Pelagos or Sub?
I don't have a sub yet in my collection so I've been looking at the various options. The no date has a classic look. The date is something useful for me. When I started looking at the ceramic versions versus the previous models I noticed the biggest changes were the ceramic dial and glide lock clasps. Retail price around $8500.
After I had thought I decided I saw several threads about the Pelagos. Titanium bracelet, new clasp that may be as good as the glide lock, 42mm size, easier to see the time in the dark and a price around $5k. I was originally going to get a 16610 or 14060 as the features on the newer versions weren't worth the extra cost for me. Mainly because I discovered I can get the same thing from a lower priced Pelagos. So now I'm torn. Should I get a sub as I think one's collection isn't complete without one? Or should I get a Pelagos? |

IMHO, Sub or, if the price is a big factor, get a PO 8500 BNIB for $4500. I think its more watch for your money than the Pelagos AND it has a ceramic bezel (not to mention the awesome 8500 movement, opposed to Pelago's 2824).

Submariner, no contest. The Tudor is nice but unless you're going vintage Tudor Sub, the 16610 or 14060 is the ticket to buy

The only trusted way to do away with the itching is buying both.....
i) If you don't buy a Sub this time, you will end up buying one at a later moment, no matter what. It's an iconic watch and the itching will not go away unless you own one, and truth is the itching might escalate up to owning more than one....... (guilty as hell here, by the way). ii) The Pelagos is very tempting. It's very smartly thought out. Proof is that many of us diehard Rolex fans cannot take our eyes away from it. In my case, it's the Titanium case. I don't have a Titanium watch in my collection, and I must confess I would fancy one. Truth is that most probably the Pelagos is more of an impulse buy, and that the itching for the Pelagos will go away faster than the itching for the Sub. Conclusion: Sub. |

Agree with everyone here. SUB!
Since this is the Rolex Forum, you shouldn't be surprised with the consensus. Good luck with your choice whatever it is. |

Tudor's are great value for money, I'm not going to knock them. But I would only consider a Tudor later on, AFTER I've gotten a Sub. A Tudor to me is a great every day watch, can be work everywhere without worrying to much about them, but a Sub is something special!

If your funds only allows you to get one, please get the SUB.
If you can afford to get both then get the one with a better price deal first as you will end up with both of them anyway.

A sub is just that. A sub. It is close to a religion.
However, I tried the Pelagos on 2 days ago. And it is the most perfect watch in every way. Any watch I look at has 1 small thing that I would have liked changed. The Pelagos is perfect. Greg |

Pelagos... half the price and more watch. When you buy a SubC, you are not paying for a better watch than the Pelagos, you are paying for the iconic status. Only you can decide what is more important.
Rolex really missed it on the last update of the Sub. Get comfortable... it will only remain unchanged for another 10 years or so. Hey buy a new Sub, and it's already vintage!! Is it the small size of the SubC, the glossy ceramic bezel, or hard to read dial which is appealing to you? Of course, don't let the fact that it is the most copied watch on planet earth stop you from buying it... just because the kid down the street is wearing a fake Sub (and many of his friends) should not impact your decision. A post above which mentioned a Planet Ocean w/ 8500 movement was a great suggestion, as is the Tudor Pelagos itself. My comments are posted in fun of course, and represent my humble opinion, in order to get the OP to consider all sides. I am admittedly biased, and no offense to the Sub guys intended, but THERE ARE other choices out there. P.s. While I realize this is not on your list, take a good, hard look at the new Explorer II 42mm 216570. Nope... its not a dive watch... but it is Rolex's most modern, up to date watch produced, and IMHO, one heck of a nice looking watch. Good luck to you. |

for what it's worth, the pelagos has a ceramic bezel, too. as to the question, get the pelagos only if you really prefer it to the submariner. otherwise, you won't be satisifed, and you'll end up picking up a sub later anyway. |

Am not a fan of titanium so between the two I would go for the Sub. But as others before me have suggested, there are other options worth considering, such as the Omega PO 8500 and the new Exp II...
Good luck! |

I went into an AD while on hols in NZ to see how good a deal I could get on a Tudor BB and waked out with a Sub (to be fair they had no BB left). I think it will always be hard not to go the SUb when given the chance. I bought my Tudor Sub first because I could not stretch to the Rolex first up. I love my Tudor it is probably a better investment, but it will always be in the back of your head that you want the Real McCoy. So I agree with most posts get the Rolex Sub and if you still have a need for more later then get the Pelagos down the track, there will be no bagging on Tudor from me I like mine as much as my Rolex's. Just always wanted to see the crown on my sub, not sure if it is Marketing or vanity but I am glad the Rolex Sub is the latest addition to my collection.

The Pelagos is the better diving watch, IMO. The Sub is the better piece of jewellery. I guess it's a question of what you want from your watch
