Pelagos and the Sub are so vary different that you really need to try them on first. I wanted a diver that was low key from a brand perspective, matte finish versus satin, adjustable clasp, and can take a beating without showing battle scars from every bump. That's why I went with Pelagos. Turns out that I like the titanium material way more than SS that my explorer has (color & feel). Plus, I think the case shape appears more organic to the overal design of the watch. As you can tell I love the Pelagos and at 4k it's a heck of a deal.

I would get the Sub first between those two. Somebody recommend the PO 8500 and Explorer II 42, another great options. IMHO, the Submariner will probably have the better staying power.

My vote goes to the Tudor Pelagos! GREAT watch... love the Ti case and band, the matte ceramic glow-in-the-dark bezel, the matte dial, "Snowflake" hands, the fine-adjustable clasp and the pointed crown guards!

as to the question, get the pelagos only if you really prefer it to the submariner. otherwise, you won't be satisifed, and you'll end up picking up a sub later anyway.

Thanks, I didn't realize that!

Of those two: Pelagos. Why? Because it's unusual and interesting, not to mention thousands cheaper. Everyone has a Submariner. Just look at the responses in this thread.

The reason to get a Submariner is because you were hopelessly drawn to that particular watch, not as some obligatory right-of-passage watch purchase.

How does the titanium stand up to scratches and desk dives? I'm contemplating getting one when I visit France next month.

I'd go with the Sub.

I do however really like the Tudor. Titanium is appealing for many reasons. That said the Pelagos seems very bulky. Of course you can't see them in person so in the USA so it's hard to decide.

Another watch watch I am REALLY attracted to is the Grand Seiko Spring Drive Titanium SBGA031. That is a sick watch and I wish I had one.

It depends. If you want a diver just to say, ok I've got one or to use it in everyday life, go with Rolex. If you need a diver to dive, go with the Pelagos!

I've only had it for 20 days, but I have no marks on the Ti so far. However, the clasp itself is SS and appear to swirl the same as my explorer.

Is there a significant contrast in color/finish between the SS clasp and Ti bracelet? If not, is it because the SS has a coating, say DLC for example?

No, you wouldn't know that they are using two different materials from looking at the bracelet / clasp. There appears to be no coating on the clasp for color correction... I'm guessing the material they are using for the SS has an element that is giving the matte gray appearance, but only a guess. I will snap a pic of the used clasp later tonight.
