Flip a Daytona?

Bought a NIB black face Daytona a couple months ago and love it. I like how it looks on my wrist and everything about it. Except for one thing. Unless I am in a very bright place I cannot see the hands, especially the hour hand, against the black dial and very shiny subdials.

So I'm considering trading my black face Daytona for a white face Daytona.

What are my chances of making an even swap for a lightly used "late model" white face?

Good luck with the trade, don't know how that will work out.

I agree about the black dial and passed on that watch twice as I found it completely unreadable.

I love my white dial Daytona.

Best bet is to find someone in the for sale section that wants to flip their white, for a black.

It might take a little time, but if your patient, I'm sure it could work out.

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that. What does a dial + installation cost, ballpark.

A new dial is a good idea. Does Rolex still make you fork over the old dial first?

No don't think so, i know an AD once told me to get the first SS daytona in any colour i can and buy the spare dial in the opposite colour instead of waiting for the right colour to come along from the start.

So that suggests they aren't going to ask for your old black dial if u choose to buy the other dial. I think i was told its about £300 for the dial if that helps.

I am actually happy to wait though, I want the right colour from the beginning and avoid the extra few hundred for no reason, and also therefore not risk any kind of installation issues at the hands of the AD on what would otherwise have been an unopened watch until the first service years later

Flip the Daytona for something you can read like a Sub or a GMT and never look back

Buy a new white dial! Keep the old one.
Or send the hands to paint and you will have a unique Daytona.

Which AD was this? Maybe he didn't mean thru Rolex as I think it unlikely Rolex/RSC will provide a new dial and not take the old.

If you can source the dial and have someone like abc make the change then do that. Otherwise yeah flip it. If you are in a hurry just phone David or somebody and get a baseline for what the swap would cost you?

Ask your AD to swap the dial as its brand new if you bought from AD that's easiest route in sure they'll oblige at the most minimal cost to you.

Call one of the Rolex service centers, explain to them your situation so as to get the flip done.

It cost a few hundred when I had mine done through Rolex NY about eight years ago. Good luck.

I agree...I find the white much more legible. As far as a swap, I would just hang out here in the for sale section, and keep a lookout for either a white dial or someone who wants to swap.

I have heard it is not a bad idea to source the hands too if you go the dial route...the subdial hands are very small and delicate and easily damaged. While I don't know the truth of this, I have held one in my hand...about like holding an eye lash.

I found the white to be as hard to read as the black.

Funny enough, I have a very hard time reading my white dial Daytona. Good thing I didn't get black or I would probably be late for everything!
