Solar Aqua (Tudor) crown/ stem issue

Hello,
I am new to this forum. I recently acquired a 1950's solar aqua 7903 with the crown and stem not able to be screwed back on the stem tube. I assumed that the threads may be stripped and installed a new tube. After removing the stem successfully, I have had some difficulty re-installing it. Initially, the stem slipped in and was in the time set position, however after removing it and re-installing it as I was trying to understand the problem, the stem now only goes in to allow for winding but not for time setting. I think the stem is original but the crown looks to be newer. I read that there was a spring or a lever that may have tripped that is accessed by removing the dial, which I have done but the levers to not seem to move easily. Can someone tell me if this can be fixed without taking it to a repair shop? Thank you.
