Most iconic Lange 1

I have put together a collection of what I believe are some of the most iconic pieces from each of my favorite brands (Speedmaster, Submariner, Snowflake, etc.). We all need a theme, right?

Next on the hit list is Lange and more specifically the Lange 1. I am thinking rose gold with a silver/white dial (maybe my favorite), but wanted to ask the forum a question. What Lange 1 color combination (case color, dial color) is the most iconic in your opinion? Why?

Thanks all!

I would definitely go for the grand lange 1 with moonphase. That watch with the moonphase is one of the nicest watches i’ve seen. Personally my grail.

Any moonphase version will see you right. It’s a stunning watch and really like the big date display.

What about the lumen versions of the Lange 1? Very cool with the transparent dark glass and the lume. If you're going to get a Lange 1, you might as well go the whole hog. Good luck!

Wow, that one is incredible

As for most iconic, I guess the original Lange 1 with closed caseback. The horror! The horror!

I would choose this exact config as well.

If we are being extravagant then the Handwerkskunst.

The original in rose gold with the silver dial is the most iconic and is possibly your favorite, so that makes for an easy choice. Personally, while I love Langes, I'm not a fan of the Lange 1 but I do like the ones with moonphases best. Have you considered a platinum Datograph? That could also give the Lange 1 a run for it's money in terms of being iconic and I think it's the best chronograph ever made, although I chose the 1815 Chornograph for my collection.

Why has only one person answered this question correctly. This is THE iconic Lange 1, no other.

I think many believe RG silver is the iconic look even though YG was the original. I’m not sure many pay attention to older Lange stuff...yet.

That’s right, not many paying attention to these just yet. The YG L1 is something I want to add, have been looking closely. Might be heresy but I will most likely sell my Datograph if I find the right L1.

Purchased my first Lange 1. White gold with blue steel hands (known as 101.027x). Finishing is on par with patek and the movement is definitely far better looking

The most iconic would be the L1 YG/Champagne dial. I know lots consider the Data to be an icon, and it is, but it isn't THE icon. However, the YG is discontinued and the RG/Silver dial is just as beautiful if not more.

The L1 is quintessentially Lange and is such a beautiful object that never seizes to amaze me.

I wanted to get fellow forum members' perspective on this. I use a jeweler that I have purchased other watches from (AP, Patek, Rolex). I have wanted a Lange 1 for 10 years. The jeweler recently had one in stock, but it had no papers. I was told it was reference number 191.021 and potentially 5 - 10 years old (despite that reference being introduced in 2015).

I received the watch and I absolutely love it. But to my surprise, I took it to a Lange boutique and found out the watch is from 1996-1997! The watchmaker tested it and said it works very well and is in excellent condition.

The Lange boutique is kindly providing replacement papers for the watch. The watchmaker kindly advised me to not return the watch since YG is no longer being produced and the watch is in good condition. Thoughts?

Do you like the colour?
You’ve been reassured that it’s in good working health, although you can have it serviced and then benefit from the 2 years warranty that goes along with it, so nothing there to be concerned about.
It’s a relatively rare piece now, does that add to the appeal or is it not a factor?
Only you can (and should) decide what floats your boat, and will give you long term satisfaction.
