Would you agree?

I would occasionally put my Submariners on a strap. The other day, my non-WIS wife commented that they did not look like Rolex on a strap. Not that they didn't look good she said, but they didn't look like Rolex?

Would you agree?
Rolex (except for dressy models) = bracelet
PAMs = straps

I think she has a point

Variety is the spice of life. It's your watch. Wear it how you like.

I don't like the idea of a dive watch on a leather strap. Kinda defeats the point

This! If the Dali can wear his presidential on a strap, so can you and I.

I thought President was the actual bracelet and not the watch itself. Am I missing something?

As far as the OP, I'd keep my Subs on their original bracelet. I appreciate that a NATO strap is probably better while diving, but for everyday wear, I personally think it cheapens the look. But that's just me, I've been wrong before.

Nope, your correct, I'm wrong, don't know why I called it a presidential, still a newb, oops

But yes, the good ol' DL has been pictured wearing his Rolex on straps, likely, IMO, to "tone it down." One of the greatest things about these, or any watch is that they can be fitted to suit individual tastes as they vary as wide as the Pacific Ocean.

:cheers;

Just because its a dive watch you can use diving, the majority of owners will never use it for its intended purpose. I love the look of a PAM but prefer the Submariner. A nice leather strap and I have the best of both worlds to me anyway.

Yes, a sub belongs on a Nato. Strap it on and dive (into the sea or into the crowd)!

I agree...
I've tried straps but never last an entire day. I will only use a NATO when in the ocean...for security reasons.

I dont like leather straps on Divers with an outter bezel, so the AP Diver or Aquanaut/Nautilus is fine as they are more dressy divers than pure sports watches. Rubber straps are fine on Rolex divers for a change up but bracelet is def best.

I like a bracelet best but I do enjoy a strap every once in a while to change things up. It also keeps me from buying to many new watches because every time I change to a new strap it is like I have a different watch on. Lol

I wear my Red sub on a custom leather or rubber strap all the time - I have the original bracelet but just don't like it... On the other hand I have a GMT which I can't imagine with anything other than the bracelet - go figure...

Dive watch on a leather strap is a no-go for me. NATOs are cool but I still like bracelet best.

I agree with the wife, I don't care for it and it doesn't quite look like a Rolex!

Straps are great for spicing it up and dressing it down on NATO

Yeah, Rolex officially calls the bracelet the President and the watch the Day Date. But the story is that the DD itself came to be nicknamed the President when Rolex presented one each to Eisenhower and Churchill after WWII. Not sure how true this is because I've seen pictures of Eisenhower and I believe the watch he was given was a Datejust and was received prior to the DD being introduced. But I also read somewhere that when Rolex returned Eisenhower's watch from a service overhaul they fitted it with a President bracelet, the same bracelet that came on the DD introduced that year. If true that may be the only time in history Rolex returned a watch from service with a "model incorrect" part, lol! Maybe people mistook his watch as the new DD model and started calling it the President (he was President at this point).

Perhaps the reference to "DD" ----- Day Date and D-Day, also has something to do with it. In any event, I don't think it is completely inappropriate to refer to the DD model as the President even though it isn't the official term. After all, Rolex doesn't make a "Hulk", "Smurf", or "Bluesy" either.
