Sub 14060 discontinued?
I just spoke to a Rolex AD and they told me the Submariner no date is going to be discontinued. I was offered one BNIB from this AD for $5000 with a random serial number. Does any anyone know if this is true and 2nd is this a good price? Thanks in advance.

There are rumours that it may be discontinued.
The pricetag is pretty good, IMO.

Rumours only, although it is highly likely. We'll know for sure in March

No and no. One of the oldest lies in the book told by sellers of pretty much anything, (and unfortunately especially Rolex ADs), is to claim that it is soon going to be 'unavailable' for whatever reason. This is to try to stampede you into making the 'buying decision'. Even if it were true that Rolex was planning to discontinue a model, the AD would have no advance notice of it.
And it isn't true anyway, Rolex has been making this model, unchanged, since before you were born, and it will still be being made and sold in its present form when our grandchildren are very old and gray. Present street price for that model is at LEAST $1000 below what that thief is trying to screw you for. Check the sellers on this site. |

Sounds like the old "there is going to be a price increase from Rolex soon... you better hurry up and buy at today's prices while you can" nonsense... That being said I could see it being discontinued but that should not make you buy it unless you really want it

Not sure whether it's being discontinued or not, but I can tell you that they are pretty scarce in AD's cases lately and there haven't been any shipped in quite a while. It's in the latest price book with a msrp of $5825.

The last of the surviving Icons is doomed to either be updated or discontinued

We get this same rumor every year just before the Basel Show......
Since it has been upgraded with a COSC dial, engraved rehaut, random numbers, and uses the very dependable 3135; there is absolutely no reason to suspect that it will be discontinued this year either.......

.. Well, it is just a guess..
But they still need to continue making all the parts; so it doesn't cost them anything to go ahead and make the watch.....

I personally think that the 14060 will stay in the line up. There is no reason for Rolex to discontinue it, as it does have a cult following.
What I do expect is that it will get a new case and bracelet, which may be just as bad as discontinuing it in some people's eyes. I'm not sure what I think yet about an update. I'd like to get one before the change, whatever that is, but I have some other things to do with my money for the next several months besides buying a new watch. Too bad I ain't rich.

Maybe it will morph into a "114060" ceramic super case maxi dial glidelock no date sub? ( pure speculation-it just seems to be the natural evolution of the last part of the sub line)
