I left my guard down for an instant. My wife approved of me having a Daytona, as for quite some time, I have admired this beautiful piece, being a sports car race fan.
She said I could have a Daytona, but I have to wear it, not leave it in a box. So I took her advice, and wore it every where I went.
I am a golfer, and I remove my watch before I play and put it in a zippered pocket. I never leave my golf bag, as I am always afraid of this very moment. Christmas eve, my son is home from college, we go to the course, we are warming up on the driving range. My other buds show up on the range, and my son says nhe wantys to go get a sandwich, and takes my cart to the clubhouse, parks it, hoes inside, gets a sandwich, comes back and picks me up. Five minutes, I am away from my bag. That's it.

Someone must have seen me take it off, on the driving range, wrap it in my felt cloth store bag, place it in my zippered pocket. Then follow the cart, make the heist while he is inside the grill room.

That's it fellows, I am an idiot. I was distracted, and my usual practice of never leaving my bag alone was interrupted, by my pleaswure of playing golf with my son, who I see a few times a year.
Don't feel dumb. I would do the exact same thing when I golfed until I had a friend get his bag stolen. Hope the home owners covers it for you.

Yep, it could have been anyone. Sorry to read your other post that it is excluded from your coverage.

I used to work the 2 PGA events here each year and did Cubhouse + Hospitality Security responsibility for title sponsor. Lots of losses and often many got solved - the vast majority was another Spectator. But some Clubhouse escapades did include staff.

Have them check the tapes.. They have camera's everywhere now..
GO out there and see if the people working there are wearing your watch and keep a look out on ebay and craigslist..
There are a great group of guys here post the s/n and they will all keep a look out for out.. Like they say the daytona is not everywhere so if people are looking for it then it will pop up.. I noticed that the wis world is small..

Sorry for your loss. Appreciate you telling the story so that other golfers like me can learn from what happened with you. I know that when we go into the bar/restaurant at the turn or between rounds if playing 36 that I'm always kind of worried about my bag. I don't like playing golf with my watch on so now it'll be left at home or in my car. I hope the police catch the thief and you get your watch back.

Man, I was really hoping for a happy ending with the insurance company on this one. Hope they find who did this.

Unbelievable. Sorry to hear about the negative updates...

As someone who's played golf at every level, there are a lot of sneaky/shady people all over country clubs/public tracks/muni's...I'm hoping there is SOME sort of security footage or ANYTHING suspicious that narrows down the search...

See if the cops can check the pawn shop records. Every sale or pawn needs to be recorded in the state system. I live in FL and had a TAG lifted from my condo...never found ( i believe I know who lifted it) but the cops can run a search using the SN against the pawn list. Give it a shot. Sorry, OP....not fun.

I lost an Oris F1 off my wrist last Spring...have State Farm Personal articles policy...they paid appraised value less $100 ded.

As did I. Now I'll either wear my G-Shock or put it in my pocket. Only thing I put in my bag now is my phone sometimes.

HOpe it works out with the insurance. Ran into a similar problem this past spring when I lost my 16800 in the Bahamas. Only reason I was able to get the full value for it was because I had it appraised and claimed as an itemized item under a jewelry rider on my homeowners.

Sorry for your loss, it's especially awful at this time of year.

I don't know about homeowner policies in the US, but here in Australia, most Home Contents insurance cover items that are IN the home, not taken outside the home, unless a special rider, for 'worldwide' cover is taken out, typically around 2% for items like jewelry and watches.

Again, thanks to all for your thoughts and advise. The reality is I may not be able to replace it , at least for a while, if ever.
The pawns in florida supposedly are linked to police theft records.
The golf course does not have cameras where the the theft would have taken place, but they do have them at the entrance at the guard gate.
Whatever that may be worth.

Check the pawn shops anyway. Not sure of the procedure in Florida, but here the pawn shop faxes a list of items the bought for the police to check if the SN's were reported stolen. The officer that took my report told me that the less honorable ones will often "mis-read" 1 or 2 of the numbers so they don't get a match.

pm sent.

I'm so sorry to read about this...and don't feel dumb. I place thieves amongst the lowest forms of life in this world. It's not just a piece of jewelry, so it pains me to read about this as it could have happened to any of us. I truly hope you get it back, and the thief gets theirs.

Sorry about that. My insurance needed a separate rider, so I got one for our Rolexes. I agree with checking for the security camera.

Sorry for your loss Miko. Take some small satisfaction that your experience finally convinced me to get my Daytona appraised and covered.

So easy to pretend we are immune to thefts and things that happen "to other people" until it happens to us.

Thanks again for sharing. I know it was painful, but I also golf and could see how this could happen.

Go out and get a Sky Dweller and you'll feel 100% better!

Hello again,

after speaking to someone in the watch business, and also an attorney, they feel that a possible claim against the golf club's insurance policy may help replace my watch. Anybody have any thoughts on that avenue?
Thanks

Thanks for telling us how it happened. I do the same with my watch when I play golf. I guess I will have to be more careful about that as well. If I wear my Timex, I guess I won't have to worry about this happening.

Sorry for your loss and hope you have it covered by your insurance.
