FS: SUPER RARE - FP Journe 38mm Steel Chronometre Souverain

The Second Hand Club proudly presents a unique opportunity to own an iconic collector's item. This exquisite timepiece is part of a limited series of 38 sets created to commemorate the end of the 38mm case size era, a preference cherished by watch purists. Notably, it marks the first occasion that any Journe dress watch in steel became available, excluding the grande or petite sonnerie chiming watches. Additionally, four out of the five pieces in this collection have been discontinued. It's worth mentioning that the original version of the Tourbillon Souverain had never featured a gold movement until now.

In the spotlight, we have the Chronomètre Souverain, exemplifying the quintessential F.P. Journe style, both in its design language and movement. Encased within the classical 38mm dress watch case, it boasts F.P. Journe's signature 'flat crown' with an intricately designed rope-like pattern. The silver and yellow dial features exquisite engine turning in the center, showcasing a hobnail Clous de Paris pattern, while the outer track showcases embossed decorative Arabic numerals in a striking blue. The iconic F.P. Journe style hands create a captivating contrast against the dial. Positioned between seven and eight o'clock is a subsidiary seconds subdial, complemented by a power reserve indicator at three o'clock, displaying a generous 56-hour power reserve. Overall, the dial layout is characterized by its clean design and exceptional legibility.

One intriguing feature of this timepiece lies in the power reserve indicator's unique operation. When winding the watch, instead of progressing from 0 to 56 hours, it moves in the opposite direction towards 0. This deliberate choice by F.P. Journe draws inspiration from marine chronometer clocks, serving as a reminder of the hours that have passed since the watch was wound, rather than indicating the remaining power reserve.

While the Chronomètre Souverain undoubtedly captures attention with its aesthetic appeal, F.P. Journe's true mastery lies within its movement. The in-house Calibre 1304 is entirely crafted from 18-carat rose gold, showcased through the transparent sapphire caseback. Featuring two parallel mainspring barrels working in tandem, this movement delivers exceptional performance. Notably, the chronometric balance integrated into the movement ensures precision, a hallmark of F.P. Journe's watchmaking philosophy. The meticulous hand-finishing further enhances the movement's beauty, incorporating circular graining, sunburst, and wave patterns. Every screw head is meticulously polished, and all edges are expertly chamfered, adorned with a Côte de Genève motif on the bridges.

In 2005, this remarkable timepiece earned the prestigious 'Favourite Men's Watch' award at the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), cementing its status as an industry standout.

Completing the package, this watch comes with a black F.P. Journe alligator strap and a stainless steel deployant buckle.

The Second Hand Club is thrilled to present this exceptional opportunity to acquire a truly iconic collector's piece. We echo F.P. Journe's sentiment, as stated on their website, that luxury watches cased in steel are exceptionally rare and highly sought after at auctions, often surpassing their precious metal counterparts in value. This set is tailor-made for discerning collectors who recognize the rarity and significance of 18-carat rose-gold movements paired with 38mm steel cases, making it the most exclusive collection in F.P. Journe's portfolio.
