LOL ..

I read these post so quickly...

When I read yours I read it as "I gave my three year old son...."

I was like, "Damn, that's one independent overachiever"

If I had a kid, I'd expect him to be independent and out of the house by 3yr.....

eeerrrr....maybe that's why I don't have kids?

If you decide to give him one, then go with the new one in 6-12 months and leave it blank.

I did the same thing. Thought that was a bit too early.

Poppop, I have my Dad's Omega, it means a lot to me, it was never engraved but the loving connection between my Dad, the watch, and myself has endured for many decades. Best to you and your Son.

I think you can't go wrong either way, opinions in here are pretty varied on this. I typically prefer no engravings. If I was gifted a watch that was engraved for an occasion, then I may feel differently. Maybe gift it to him as is, and see if he'd want it engraved at a later time?

Ask him which one he wants. His answer might surprise you.

No need for any engraving, imo. Either the watch is memorable on its own, or it isn't (I'm sure it will be). The engraving won't improve that. Also, engraving is just not a thing people under 50 normally do anymore.

What to engrave on watch given to my son.

Bought my dad his first nice watch a few years ago. I engraved it with his name and the year I gifted it to him. I then engraved my initials and my son’s initials with the anticipated years we will respectively inherit it.

Paul Newmans wife Joanne engraved “drive very slowly - Joanne” into each of the case backs of watches she gifted him.

I love that touch.

I’d suggest engraving a few words of either encouragement, wisdom or humor that he will always attribute to you. Followed by “Love, Dad” or something similar.

My son is only 2 but if he ends up interested in watches, I’ll engrave something along the lines of “Jack, be good -Dad”

My grandpa, from whom i inherited an 1803, used to tell me to be a good boy, even as an adult. So now, when I drop off my son at daycare, I tell him to be good.

I'm with the others here, "Love, Dad" is perfect. What a wonderful gift - I am sure your son will really appreciate it.

That's funny, because I always tell my dad to get into trouble ... he's 75 ...
