Wow. What a saga, OP, both with your watch and with this forum. Glad it worked out so well for you. I've spent my entire life in and around pools, as a competitive swimmer, lifeguard, pool maintenance guy, triathlete, and general water person. For 35 of those years, my gold wedding band has accompanied me in the water, and I've never noticed any ill effects on it. While I won't enter water that smells strongly of chemicals, I wouldn't have thought pool chemicals could discolor gold. Sorry, OP, that you had to serve as a warning for the rest of us.
