15202 + 5167 for a 5980/1A (black dial)
Would you trade a 15202 (blue, steel) and a 5167 (rubber, steel) for a NOS 5980/1A black dial? Hard to decide...what's your thoughts please

Personally, I wouldn’t, because those are two fabulous and complementary pieces that together give you more options than the 5980 on its own. 5980 is top of the mountain though, so there is that. Good luck!

I would rather keep both, or change both for a travel time.
The aquanaut line and nautilus 5980 were both a good surprise and a big disappointment, respectively, but that is my opinion only, each to their own. |

This is a very challenging scenario for me. Although I'm a big fan of the 15202, I also appreciate the rarity of the black dial and beautiful Nautilus profile of the 5980/1A. I think I might just do it for the black 5980/1A.

if you can, keep all watches.
If you have to sell then trade for 5980a. I own both 5980a (blue dial) and 5990a. Love both!!

Tough question as these are all beautiful references, the black one is the only 5980 I´d like to own.
Still, I´d rather have two iconic watches and the 5167 is probably one of the best daily wearers available. I´d keep the two. |

I would not as the pushers ruin the Nautilus case for me. I'd rather get a 5968 for a Patek sports chrono but prefer 15202 + 5167.

Much, much, much prefer 15202 and 5167. In fact i rate a 15202 above a 5711 putting aside price consideration. My ideal AP / PP combo would be 15202 steel and a 5712r. |

I wouldn't, but I don't like the 5980's profile.

I wouldn't but can totally understand why someone else would.
The 5980 is special enough. |

I would
the 5980 steel is a much smaller production watch than the 2 others that in theory you can still get at boutiques. The 5980 is long gone, forever gone and is a great watch. Especially if NOS, I would take it and make the trade. Then I would try to get back the 15202 and get an aqua travel time... If you don't, I might as well do it ;-) PM me |

Not for me. The two you own are one of the most iconic and comfortable watches made. The 5980 (or any larger nautilus) is not my cup of tea.

Two mediocre watches for one great one? Of course, that's just my opinion.

I love the 15202, I love the Nautilus line-up, I don't like the Aquanaut (except the 5650G :p).
The answer depends also on your wearing habits and your current collection. You have a wonderful and very well finished 15202 that I imagine you might be careful with and you have an Aquanaut that is excellent for more sporty activities or when we don't want to have to care too much about scratches and dings. The Nautilus is a watch that we usually like to keep "in good shape". Of course that's just me but if I felt at ease in any circumstances with the Aquanaut, I wouldn't use the 5980 for the same situations. Hence, you have to consider the need to have an alternative "tool" watch. Of course, you can also enjoy the 5980 in any situation and accept the consequences on its shine, the polished and brushed parts that will be altered. IIRC, the 5980 with pushers looks significantly bigger than a 15202 or 5167. I imagine you've tried it already (otherwise you should prior to purchase). |

Assuming you had the wrists for it, yes. If 67 is perfect then no. Unfortunately, no matter how much I wanted a 5980 it looked too big for me in my own opinion. Always great in photo and then like a clown car on my wrist.

Seems fair value wise. I’m a bit torn on the trade itself as I like steel chronos but also like aquanauts over nautilus. If you have another aqua id probably do it.

15202 is also amazing don’t get me wrong but 5980 is another level. 5167 is entry level patek so… 5980 gave you the best of both world |

Love the 15202 but the way I see it if you do this trade you can always buy another 15202 (prices have dropped alot recent months) and another 5167 perhaps even at retail if you have a good enough relationship but the 5980 (nos) is truly so hard to come by and is a real heavy hitter. |

5980 has nothing to do with the 40th anniversary collection. Unless you speak of some other anniversary I’m not familiar with?

I’m not a one watch type of guy, so unless you have something else lurking I wouldn’t
