Which Seiko while saving for a Rolex?
Good afternoon,
I recently posted on the rolex thread about a potential first rolex purchase I had been considering the 214270 Explorer or a 116000. However after many helpful replies I'm know strongly considering waiting until I'm in a position to buy a rolex submariner. I'm going on a family holiday and with other financial commitments realistically it could be another year until I'm in a position to purchase the Submariner. Having started to look into the seiko models I have been very impressed with some of the models available. My wrist is 6.75 and I was wondering could you help me with some suggestions of a nice model to purchase which I could enjoy until the time Comes that I'm able to buy the rolex. I would have a budget of £1000 max. I like the look of the turtles, however my friend has the padi version so that would rule this one out. The other model I quite like is the SPB083J1 I look forward to your advice as always and look forward to receiving some suggestions. Thank you Frank |

I tried out the non-limited the edition and it's nice watch, I personally prefer my turtle over it but here's a review:

I recently picked up a SRPC35K1. I think it’s fantastic. And BTW, unless your a big dive watch fan, I think the Explorer is fantastic. Had a SubC, but it wasn’t for me.

The modern Turtle, SRP777. Get a shark mesh bracelet, a rubber strap from Uncle Seiko, and maybe an Oyster bracelet from Strapcode. Sharp watch, hacking, great size, and the variety of straps give you different looks. I wear mine on a shark mesh and personally think it looks awesome.

I have these 2 that are great....the SKX009J1, which gets the nod from even the most respect collections....And my latest purchase a SPB079, which comes with the blue bezel. It’s accuracy is superb at +/- 2 seconds per day, sapphire crystal, 6R15 movement, winding & hacking.

This was my choice. Bought it because it looks like a black Sub and I love black Subs.

Turtle or SKX 007/009 would be my choices. You’ll love them now and after you get your Sub.

On the subject on black sub, I bought this 10 years ago for $150 and most of the time it was sitting unused on a desk in my office, I don't even know what it is.

There are so many good looking versions of the turtle, I wouldn't worry about your friend having one too...

...for one of these. Then don’t bother with a Sub.
