Vintage Rolexes with black lacquer instead of lume on the hands

I've noticed a few vintage Rolexes from the early 1970's that have black lacquer paint instead of lume. In all cases, they have hour markers that appear to be topped with black lacquer as well.

Are these black lacquer hands a well-known thing? Or do people just not care? I only found out about them recently. Here are some examples:

I assume it's the same black lacquer they used for the Milgauss CERN dials?

If anyone knows more about these black lacquer hands/hour markers I'd love to hear it

Merely another option/variation to add to the existing plethora of DJ choices...
