However I recently had the chance to drive my friend's 993 manual coupe and I mean I properly drove it, not just a quick blast up the road and I absolutely LOVED it. It was the perfect balance of old school mixed with every day usability.

I currently have a 991.1 PDK C2S, which I love, but since driving my mate's 993, I keep looking on Autotrader for one to run alongside the 991. In my eyes it is the perfect 911
Thank you. I feel the same way.

All 911 generations have something very unique in them. But 993 somehow manages to capture the best parts of the old era and it brought something new on the table too (the Weissach axle) and the modern front end look. Sure... it's still pretty much the same car as the 1970's impact bumper car... but it's slightly more capable and has better transmission (imho).

And if you look at 997 and 991, they have pretty much the same front end shape too. Even 992.

993 mixes the old and new in nice way. It was kind of a "transitional model".

I agree about the old cars. It’s just another level of granularity and feel. I moved to Oregon seven years ago, and we have a great group that goes on absolutely ripping drives through the mountains. I’m usually the odd man out with the 951, although my friend snuck his sweet NSX in on this drive.

Summed it up perfectly.

Honestly 993 was that perfect moment for the 911.

This thread is just making me want one even more!!

I very nearly pulled the trigger on a burgundy red/sand leather 993 coupe before I bought my 991, until I spotted the rust at the bottom of the windscreen and the seller said "that hasn't gotten any worse in 7 years" and I just thought "Nah!"

There’s a silver 993 in there, but unfortunately tough to see in those pics.

That NSX is awesome!!!

But there is something just so special about that magic that Porsche weaves where their cars are special, but also so very every day

Two of my best friends own new cars. The other guy owns a new Panamera Turbo S and the other one has new Tesla Model S.

But they both got a classic car this spring. Many people are now looking for the authentic, analog driving experience and while the new cars are more capable and definitely faster, you can't really capture the same feeling.

It's like comparing a digital, more accurate watch to an automatic, mechanical watch. Automatic watches have SOUL. Or comparing a skyscraper elevator to a roller coaster. That elevator is definitely faster but which one gives you the bigger thrill?

The body shape on the older 911s are so nice. The 991 for me at least was the last gen that felt right. The 992 while very nice and very capable and very heavy is just a whole different package.

Great looking cars, and I completely agree. I’ve owned some newer stuff, and driven a lot of it, but it’s a totally different experience. Oddly, my favorite of the newer cars may be the absolute base, first gen Cayman without particularly sticky tires. The 2.7L motor and relatively light weight make it feel a bit adjacent to the older stuff.

Many people have said that Caymans actually feel more like the traditional 911 now... than the 992 which is super capable but according to many it's so big that it feels more like a GT car.

I haven't driven a Cayman though. Cheers.

Yeah, a buddy of mine actually swapped his GT3 RS for a GT4.

The GT4 RS is sweet, but I think he wanted to switch back to a manual transmission, anyways, which the RS doesn’t have. He has a paddle shift McLaren that probably scratched that itch. lol

Plus I think trying to get a GT4 RS allocation will be extremely difficult.

It does look ridiculously good though...

Out of respect for the new owner, I won't disclose the sale price. We've all heard that "good cars go for good money"...this was absolutely one of those "good cars". It was indeed an awesome 21 years of ownership!

Regarding the air cooled prices... they have gone absolutely crazy during the last year. Especially 964 and 993 widebodies and Turbos are insane.

But there are still some GREAT deals to be made on cabriolets and tiptronics. They are MUCH cheaper.

Yeah, even a low mileage 951 went for $136k a few months ago.

As a fellow Porsche enthusiast, I completely agree with your thread. You cannot go wrong with that 993 and that 16610 and now you can enjoy both and not wonder "what's next, what's next."

Enjoy the heck out of them!

That's a good looking ride!

I've been thinking about getting a 911 as my next car, a convertible, with the digital screen. BUT I was really hoping they would have a hybrid, with pure EV mode, model already. Anyway the other thing that worries me is the back seat. I would either like something without a back seat, like the 718 boxster, or if the backseat is functional enough that I would put my kids in, with child seats, and I'd have to be confident enough that it's safe for the kids. Any thoughts on that as an owner?
