I used to have about 15 in my collection. It stressed me out so I sold all except for 2 Rolex and an Omega. Never been happier.

To get to the ‘next level up’ and get down to a wearable number of watches it makes sense.

I completely relate. I've attained some of what I used to consider grails only to find it wasn't even close to an end game.

Just sold 3 watches to purchase one of my grails, a BLNR. Sold an Omega Speedmaster Professional, Heuer Autavia JH 85th, and Heuer Monaco SM. I wasn't wearing these 3 much once I picked up a new SubC date so thought I should sell them off and put it into 1 watch. Which I did, now I only have the SubC date and BLNR. Couldn't be happier with my decision. Now I have two Rolex and I don't quickly reach for the Sub every time like I did before. Now I have the dilemma of which to wear, the Sub or BLNR. Imo, that is what you want..the difficult choice of what to wear. If you don't have a hard time deciding, sell off whatever you aren't wearing and put it towards your grail!

Depends what the grail is...for me it's not a watch that I'd specifically lust for, but something vintage that has a story with it...that the way you find it adds to its story with you taking ownership of it. That's something that would really just be special IMHO. Something like someone offering to sell a Newman daytona during an estate sale for a x agreed cash now number that would be a discount from "retail" and you only had one chance at it...

The grail...
I'm afraid it's not a watch. Sure, we all have watches we would like to buy. I own several. And I have my 'grail' watch. But it's not it.... The Grail watch is actually having no watch.... |

No grail for me. I like expensive watches and cheap watches.
My current watch is cheaper than my last watch and I like this better Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I think it comes down to knowing who you are. If you are the type of person who is happy having a singular watch and will wear it all the time and you will be happy then you should definitely buy your grail.
If you are the type of person who gets bored and wears a different watch every day then you will be unhappy with the single watch no matter what it is. I personally like having options so I could never have just one even if the others get "little" wrist time - I personally would still want to have some options. |

I lucked out and got my grail first. Wife got me the white face 116520 as a wedding gift. For me it is not the fact that it is difficult to come by; I honestly think it is the best looking watch out there. I know best looking is subjective. Only reason I got the Tudor GMT a couple weeks ago was because the Daytona is at the RSC and I needed something on my wrist. That’s not entirely fair- I really like the way it looks (not a cyclops fan) and I like having the second time zone.

I don’t have a grail. Not yet at least. For me it is about buying watches that I like and enjoy. The joy of getting the next favorite piece from the existing line up, or the next new offering, that is the fun part. I love Platona but will never own it, regardless of its price point. A YG Sub, or a WG DD, would be a great addition. But not at the cost of letting go of my favorite Tudor even. It is not about price and ranking for me.

This is me as well. I have on my radar an ideal grail collection of about 8 with 4-5 PM's and 3-4 SS. Over time I have slowly bought SS I liked and then when funds permit trade towards a PM. Then I buy another SS and do it again. It gives me the chance to try a lot of watches as I upgrade my collection to my "grail" collection. I have missed some of the SS I traded, but the PM's bring more satisfaction and enjoyment. The process has been fun.

I slowly flipped my way into more expensive watches but never made a move down to one big fish.

the grail isnt one watch but the watch that you are currently chasing.

I don't even know if there's a grail watch out there for me. I might already own it in my SD43 and I didn't even know it when I bought it (sight unseen). Can't think of a watch right now that I'd love more, although a PM Skydweller might change my mind.

I’ve gone from 10+ watches to 4 at the moment, I consolidated into fewer but more expensive pieces as I could not afford to spend more on the “hobby”.
Was it worth it? To me it was. I did not rotate much so some pieces were rarely worn, I miss them and wish I still some of them, but I’m happy with what I have. For now...

There have been watches that eluded me which I was able to eventually buy. Once that happens living with them can be another story. With luck I've bought some watches I really like wearing and owning. Those are true grails; the ones that you're truly satisfied with and can keep forever. For me the 116600 is the closest. I'd love to pare down to several.
