Don't Buy A Gold Sub (like the 116619)!!!

I feel like this with TT sub date. I love the TT sub date but just way to attractive and brings way to much attention! With that being said it truly an amazing watch and I think I have bought 16613 possibly 4 times with the end result of a purchase of a SS sub date !

I love the SS sub date it truly is for me the best option.

I’d be willing to give your old steel Sub a good home, at no cost to you.

They're ALL tool watches. Wear 'em like you stole 'em. It isn't a Rembrandt. They're meant to be used and seriously abused. Kind of like the guy in a Brooks Brothers suit who carries a straight razor.

A cop of coffee can look the same....so can a glass of wine

You can gather 6 cups of coffee or 6 glasses of wine and they could all look identical....its only the TASTE that distinguishes the better coffee or better wine.

Same with SS and WG/PT. They may look like SS but the HEFT on the wrist and FEEL when holding are completely different.....the experience of owning WG over SS cant just be judged by looks......its how it feels...

He might have been then but then he lost the plot with his Rolex peasant rantings and now he's just history.

Really, strip clubs in Bangkok? Sounds like a good way to get mugged.

No going back because the budget's all been spent.

For the price of a gold sub, think it would have to be yellow gold for me. But hey, if your happy your happy.

I was in St. Kitts last year and I ran into an older gentleman who had a interesting life, he had a great tan, a few scars, interesting nautical stories and an amazing looking looking 116619LB.

Enjoy!

Watch for everything. Gym, or riding dirt bikes in random Asian jungles, paragliding in Nepal, 4AM in seedy strip clubs in Bangkok, afterparties in Budapest. Normal life and all. You name it, a plain black steel sub blends right in. Nobody notices. And you're not going to break it. (and if you do, so what ... laser welding & parts available for everything quite easily)

But then one starts thinking (bad move as usual). What about something just a little ... nicer? More unique? A little more ... pop?

Read up on options that would suit the lifestyle. Ruling out anything without crown guards, basically. GMT would be nice, lot of time zone changes. Or Sub just because.

Poked the head in the door at various dealer in Hong Kong. BLRO eliminated, the black dial just didn't really do it in person. The rose gold Daytona though, chocolate dial. Wow. But that's a little too fancy for border crossings in Burma. Or anywhere.

Then saw the blue face white gold Sub. And it was just done deal the second I put it on. Pictures do nothing for that watch, seen plenty of those and that did nothing for me. But in person, the extra weight over the steel, that blue face instead of plain black, and the look of the metal in person .. no question. No question at all. It's like taking your favorite girlfriend, the really hot one, and turning the time back to when she just turned 18. Everything the way you know it, just ... turned up several notches.

Problem with this?

There's no going back to steel. If right now you believe "oh white gold looks the same as steel", then let me suggest you never look at a white gold Rolex in person. Never. Just keep telling yourself that steel is better, you'll save a lot of money. And you'll have way more watch options to pick from.

For a while you might still wear the steel Sub when you go kitesurf. But then you get lazy about power reserves running out, plus the blue looks way cooler and hey. It's a Sub. Made for water. So what if it's gold.

And for those who say "white gold isn't a tool watch material". Right. Keep telling yourself that for sure. Any excuse to stick with steel, which I'd highly recommend. You don't want to be out there kiting wearing a watch that costs as much a decent car. All that sand, salt water, even the watch maker was shaking his head when asked for the full monty pressure test to make sure it was up to the abuse.

There's nothing to be gained from looking at, thinking about, comparing a full gold tool watch, to a steel one.

Stick with steel. Gold is the devil.

Funny that in 2017 you wrote to stick to steel because there are more options. Ah how the times have changed.
