Watch that completely disappointed you?
Since most of us here are collectors with multiple watches, I was just curious to hear from people the one watch that they have purchased that ended up being a total disappointment.
I typically will not buy a watch without trying it on and thinking it over for quite a while. That said, it isnt always feasible to do this.... I have bought and sold several watches once I get done with them and others are long term keepers. For me the biggest disappointment to date would have to be the Oris ProDiver non-chrono version. When this big beast came out a few years ago, I was immediately focused on getting one. Several months later I found a great deal on a used model and bought it. Like most purchases, I anticipated receiving it and the day I did, I got home from work, put it on and went to dinner. By the time dinner was over I knew it was a catch and release....just didnt look as appealing as thephotos, didnt feel nice and did not sit on the wrist the way I liked so off it went. What about you?? What was the biggest swing and miss?! |

Perrelet Big Date
I got sucked in by the supposed history of the brand

the 42mm Rolex Explorer. Feels/looks cheap in person. On pictures, it looked awesome, but after wearing it for about a week, I just couldn't stand it and traded it towards an SD4K, which I absolutely love.

The first Citizen Promaster Dive Watch with Depth Gage. It had a plate back that was held in place with a number of screws.
Sent to Service Center for battery change and pressure check. A week later a screw as missing out of the back. Stripped or not tightened enough? I was so irritated I gave the watch to a friend. Later I got a EcoDrive version of the same watch. This model is almost 10 years old and still doing great on original battery/capacitor. |

I've had a number of disappointments.
Nomos watches(lugs), Daytona (size) , Breguet watches (Lugs) Panerai (size) You can never decide on a watch till you try it on.Dont buy one unless you try it on or if your sure you can return it or sell it with minimal cost to yourself |

^^ I agree and that is typically my rule. I actually didn't lose financially on the Oris, was just really disappointed as I was sure it was going to be a keeper.

Every Rolex lume is hugely disappointing but that doesn't mean I am disappointed in the watch overall.
Funny to hear someone say the Explorer II is hugely disappointing. It's one of my favorite Rolex's, and the next one on my list. Thinking of trading in my DJii for a new Exp II. |

Watches tend to be a pretty big purchase for me so I am very careful about what I buy.
Therefore, I have not had any regrets about any watch I have purchased. I have regretted selling one, my Omega "great white" GMT. I did not regret selling my blue face Tag F-1 chrono to help fund the GMT however (I thought it was/is a bit small, so maybe that counts?). But I don't regret buying the blue Tag, It was actually the most accurate watch I have even owned... |

Never been disappointed in an entire watch, just certain components.
AP Royal Oak Chronograph - the clasp sits is a position where it digs into my wrist. Not a big deal but sometimes annoying. AP Royal Oak Offshores - The deployment clasps have the same issue. Quickly remedied by buying buckle and tang. Other than that, I am not disappointed by any of my purchases. |

Agreed with you
The current explorer II feels and looks cheap. Maybe because of the colors that didn't exactly match the original myth, maybe the light weight, or maybe it just does look like a knock off.
The previous explorer II was substantially solid and in my opinion looks true and real for the job. But to answer the OP questions - AP ROO Panda and Vegas models - big disappointments. |

I hope it will never happen again. If we say it not looks cheap, it don't.
Come on my friend, just express your feelings.

VC Overseas, had one for about two hours.
Took it as payment on part of a car I sold thinking I would like it, I didn't so flipped the very same day. Didn't fit me right, too flat and looked bad. Awful in the strap, better on bracelet.

Another to 42mm ExpII. The old one was just perfectly proportioned and still could carry off the tool watch title with pride

This Steinhausen:
First one of the hands fell off. Then it never ran properly. It is also too small. I would get rid of it but I don't think anyone would want it.

They had a pre-owned one not too long ago, on rubber – actually quite liked it, even though I’m more of a bracelet person. |

Have a major soft spot for the non-Roman numerals version. Talked myself out of this one a couple of years ago, because I’d have needed a longer strap, and the bracelet would’ve been almost half the price of the watch. |

AP Diver, not that the watch was not beautifully crafted, but didn't like how delicate the brush metal surfaces were and I felt that the dial was too shiny. Also was bugged that I had to service it immediately as it was running very fast (service was free at least).

Jlc master compressor dive watch. The bezel had too much play, the lock mechanism for the pushers were not aligned, and the lume was poor.

Non-ceramic Rolex Submariner. Sorry, Rolex did not even try to make the bracelet look half-decent.

I'll go with the guys on the EXII, and same with the white dial Milgauss. I loved both in pictures, but on the wrist I think I didn't feel the white dial w/ orange accents. I think at the time I thought I liked light dialed watches over black, but I think I prefer like silver or some type of texture over just stark white dials on sports watches.

Daytona was a disappointment for me,
Not because I didn't like everything about it: perfect size, style, construction, movement, history...but I just couldn't read the time on it. I like the exp II

I put so much thought and research into a piece before I buy that I have not yet had a disappointment. Bear in mind I have only bought 3 real quality watches so it's not like I am working from a huge pool of watches where the chances of being disappointed would be much more likely.
