1969 Explorer 2 Orange hand
I have a 1969 Explorer 2 orange hand, sent to Rolex New York around 1995, replaced dial, hands, bezel, crystal. They did return original bezel. I see that vintage enthusiasts think this is terrible, watch looks like new, has been in drawer 20 years, Could you venture what it is worth?
Thanks Doug |

Are you a time traveler :)
The Explorer II reference 1655 was not released until 1971. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

Rolex sent back the original bezel? That’s pretty nice. Is that something they used to do?

You might want to have a look on a website such as Chrono24 to see what prices dealers are asking for 1655s with replacement dials etc. That should give you a reasonable idea. Other factors such as the condition of the case, whether you have the boxes, papers, service records etc will also impact on any likely resale value.

Dial is later than 1995. Rolex wasn't using luminova yet, and this is a luminova replacement dial.

Lol or it could be someone wondering how much their old watch is worth...let’s not be too skeptical without cause.

This chart will give you an idea of the age, based on the serial number.
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=54362 Yes, service parts will lower the value to collectors. But you have a wonderful, underappreciated Rolex. I think there are people out there who are okay with genuine Rolex service parts, as long as it is disclosed when selling. If I ever buy a second Rolex, I would love a 1655 with luminova dial and hands so I might be biased. Mrs. E Dantes is unlikely to approve that anytime soon, if ever. Some of the vintage dealers listed here in the Vintage Rolex section might be willing to buy. |

Orange hand serial #
I went through my files and found the serial number 3343082, and Rolex New York service date: 12-7-2000.
I received the watch in the mid 1980's to settle a ~$1000 debt. It wasn't running. A watch repair place told me it was worth ~$500 at the time. A local jeweler estimated its value at ~$3000 in 2000, before the service. I had no knowledge of the vintage "scene" at the time. I did visit Chrono 24 as suggested. Thanks. |

The serial number points toward it being built in 1973 (give or take).
Gather all of the paperwork, boxes, etc. together. As Steelinox suggested the more photos will help those with more knowledge be able to give you feedback. Paperwork from RSC , and some of the other items may increase the value to many buyers. |
