Hmmmm, is that a piece of plastic I see in there acting as a lever? If so, I'm a bit surprised at that.

Great pics though!

That piece of polymer was deemed better for "friction" purposes sometimes in the late 60's or early 70's.
The display back model has a metal part in place.

Bloody hell, you're my kind of guy. You fit in here quite well I have a 'firend' who used full lights and siren, speeding through red lights just to get to the scene of ......... a shoarma shop. We get a little peckish at night sometimes, he explained to me The Police, your best friend

Frans,
We gotta prioritize. I know that shootings and robberies are important and require a quick response, but a perfectly good chocolate frosted getting stale is just a damn shame and calls for a lights and sirens response to save it in time

You can also see this as a form of preventive self medication. We all know there's a good chance to get dizzy if your sugar level drops below a certain level. We must commend you for taking these sensible actions

Like I said, a piece of plastic (note that polymer is just as "generic" a term as plastic is)........not sure I understand why it would be different in a display back model. If the material in question was deemed superior for the application, then it should be in there regardless of display back or not, right? Odd.

If they have plastic in a solid caseback and metal in a display back... it is nothing more than a cost cutting measure, IMHO. If some material is deemed preferable, then the movement should have the same parts across the line, displayback or not.

Beautiful Pictures.

A short quote from one of C Maddox's pieces on the 861 movement.

Quote:

The movement was plated in Pink gold to begin with, then yellow-gold from 1992, then rhodium-plated in 1996. In 1996 the movement was renamed and re-launched as the c.1861 and is still manufactured today. A single part was changed from a metal component to a nylon-like synthetic part which wears better and is self-lubricating in all calibres except the display back model, with it the original metal part is retained because Omega didn't want display-back owners seeing the synthetic part.

End quote.
