So happy to have a Portillos without living in Chicago!

Went fat boy today!

Italian Beef (Dipped and Hot Peppers)
2x Portillos Chicago Dog
Fries & Onion Rings

Last bit not least.... The Cake Milkshake.
They actually drop a slice of cake into the blender to make it!

It's good. There's one right by my house so I'm a little burnt out. Also some things seem like they have changed, and not for the better since the sale.

I miss Portillo's. It was either always Italian Beef or Beef N Cheddar croissant for me.

We have one in Scottsdale, the food is okay but I don't see the big deal - I'm not from Chicago though:-)

Love Portillos! Always hit up the one in Buena Park after taking the kids to knotts.

I used to fly to Chicago twice a month. Always stopped at Portillos for an Italian beef on one trip and Portillos cheeseburger on the other.

I don't travel to Chicago much anymore but have ordered the Italian Beef kit delivered to my door. While it's not as good as eating it there, its pretty damn good

As for a Chicago dog, I'm from NY so its a no go

I prefer the NY style dog with sauerkraut and grilled onions more too.

There's one north of me in range County but the one I hit most frequently is in Moreno Valley, when I come and go from Palm Desert.

Italian Beef, fries, and a cake shake!

Damn shame to put that cake in a blender. But it is delicious. Anyone know what the secret ingredient to the chocolate cake is??

I didn't know about California but did hear that they were expanding into central illinois and they are opening one on the North side of Indy.

If it is half as good as the original it will still be better than most.

Grew up on the south side of Chicago, eaten my fair share of Poritllos beef.

About threw up the first time I saw this as I hate mayonnaise. But then I got over it. Still hate mayo, but love the cake.

Will be interesting to see how the food changes now that they sold.

I read a pretty good article on the sale and about Portillo himself. Things are supposed to stay the same, but you know that won't happen. Right away the chicken in the chop salad is rubbery and just not good. I called and they told me their "chicken product" had indeed changed....

Side note, a good Portillo store will generate 7-8 million dollars a year!

They sold back in mid-2014 so I expect any downside is already baked-in. Hopefully the "system" of good buying and good training will keep each franchise's food prep up to par.

BTW, the founder is holding the real estate for each new property that the new owners open. So he is still involved in helping the franchisee's succeed.

Wish they'd come here - they've opened 2 in Tampa area.

Another Midwest fast foodie chain named Culver's has opened a couple of spots here. Butter Burgers are one thing I missed when we raced at Road America a couple of times each year.

Funny, Culver's is on the same road as Portillos! Also one of my quick goto lunch places. If it has to be fast food, they are the best choice.
