Hello Panerai world

I have a recently found myself being interested in panerai again. Last piece I had was in 2006 and have not really followed the brand that much since then. Anyways, I'm starting to look at a possible purchase but there are so many existing and upcoming models that I figured I'd come here for a little guidance.

From the Pam's I've had in the past I managed to make a little money on resale but I understand that the market is not what it was so I'm looking for something that will not break the bank. Under 10 k for sure.

I really wanted a 47 case with either a 372, 422, 673 but I really don't think I can pull it off. I have 7 in wrists and from what I can see that is borderline. The nearest AD is 5 hours away so I can't really try one on so I'll just stick with what I know....44mm.

My wish list is short and hopefully you can steer me in the right direction.

-44mm luminor polished case
-manual or automatic wind
-sandwich dial in black or tobaco
-gold hands is a must.
- date not necessary
-seconds hand is ok
-no gmt or diver.

One last thing. What are your thoughts on thinner luminor cases. My buddy has a 674 and I thought the watch had a good feel and fit.

I wouldn't be so sure you couldn't pull off a 47mm. My wrists are 7.25" and the 372 was ok on me. I'm not sure I could do the same with, say, an Omega 47mm (not sure one exists, just an example) but Panerai are supposed to be big.

When I bought my tv a few months back, one of the sales assistants was wearing a 372; Singapore-Chinese, about 5'4", 130lb fully clothed and wringing wet and he rocked it just fine.

Five hours is a long way to travel, fair enough, but it's something I personally would consider when making an expensive purchase like that.

If the above is too much of a ballache, think about the 351. Luminor 44mm, titanium (so a bit lighter), tobacco dial, gold hands, automatic, seconds hand and date.

I've tried the new Due (thinner Luminor) and they're not for me. I think it's great that OP have created them because they increase the appeal of the brand to those that are put off by large in-yer-face watches. I hear the purists who say that they're not true Panerai and the DNA business but things change and move on. There's plenty in the range to keep most of us happy

I see you are in Ottawa, so not sure why you state that the nearest AD is 5 hours away. There is a large AD in Montreal which is a much shorter drive than Toronto. Let me know if you need any contact details.

Also, my wrist is 7" and most of my Panerai are now 47mm and are my daily wear. Your 47mm choices are great and I suggest that you drive over and try one on. I tink you will be pleasantly surprised.

It SIHH 2017 I saw the newer and thinner 47mm models due to the ne movement and they are great!

Mike, the 44mm Luminors are great (I have a 176 and 564) but go for the 47mm. I have a 6.75" wrist and am a small watch guy. Panerai is different. They're comfortable and meant to be big. I love my 673 -- the acrylic, gold hands, the whole thing. You won't regret it.

Thanks Nad. I was at the Montreal AD a couple days ago and they had 6 models on hand but there was no 47mm to try. My next option would be the new Boutique in TO.

Mike, if you feel like driving back for a meet & greet, coffee is on me.

Also, you can get to try a 47mm Rad, Luminor, Sub, and 1940 case.

Hi Mike, the toronto boutique have I think Pam 670 and they may have also Pam 737 but it's 44mm, FYI Nad is a great guy, has all the connections

You really have to try them on, the difference between 44 and 47 isn't much. I thought I was sticking with 44 too but a sales lady gave me a 422 to try and she really messed me up. Now I'm thinking I want a 422.

Lots of choices these days. If you want 47mm, the 372 is tough to beat, as is a nice preowned 232 if you want a Radiomir

Hi Mike. For what it's worth, we have exactly the same size of wrist. I was brand new to the Panerai brand a short whole ago and I decided on this 47mm 690.

At first I thought it would be too large, so I took the advice of a few members here, and went to the Panerai boutique at Yorkdale, I presume this is where you're referring to). It was well worth the trip, and very knowledgeable staff too.

I think you'll be able to pull it off.

47mm PAM's are not as big on the wrist as people think. I have a 6.5 inch wrist but its flat and my arms are long (I have to wear extra long sleeves on my work shirts). I tried on a 372 and it looked fine - certainly very big but that's the style and the lugs just fit my wrist. I liked it so much I have a nice 2016 model on the way with Plexiglas

I am sure the 673 will look great on you

I think I was a little too hasty in my choice. :). I'm still a little hesitant on model.

If you guys had a choice between 422 or 673 which would you pick.

673 for the cleaner dial. It's not the seconds hand on the 422 - I like Marinas - but the three lines of text on the dial. Funny, but I dont mind the three little lines of text on my 44mm 111 but on the 47 mm watches I prefer a base dial.
