First: First Post. First Patek. 5524G

I am a long-time collector with varied tastes and interests. I own only one Rolex (Explorer II Polar 42mm), and up until today, no Patek. I focused on some independents, some custom pieces, IWC, AP, Omega, Germans and others. Basically, I carefully collect what hits that nerve!

I was smitten with the 5524G when it was introduced. I decided then, that I would own one, but would hold off and commemorate the sale of my business with this piece one day. At that moment, there was no specific timetable. Pleased to report the business transaction was finalized very recently...so...5524G here I come!

I was able to find one (NIB) at an appropriate price with little drama. I picked it up today and am very pleased.

The watch has been reviewed, discussed, photographed, by so many collectors and enthusiasts that I won't do so here. But I will share my first impressions, hours old now.

The size, weight and wrist presence is a perfect match for my taste. I wear mostly sport/pilot/dive watches and am comfortable with larger watches. 5524 actually wears a bit small, which I like. Understated.

Dial is very legible and clean. On the wrist, very easy to read. Dial color and finish have to be seen live. The blue of the dial is subtle, matt finish, markers are the stars here.

WG case provides a warmth that SS simply can't. Again, on the wrist, believe it or not, it is more subtle that several of my SS IWC pilots. And, frankly, nothing like any of the various pilots I own.

OK. Enough of this.

Finally, I want to thank the community here. I have lurked for some time, and now know just enough to buy more PP!

Congrats lovely watch, would love to see pics, even if we already saw some, we love pics here. Also you talk about having watches from independents, would love to know which brands and models, I personally love a few from MB&F, Urwerk, and others, but more traditional independents are great as well

Congratulations on your new watch

It is a great watch, especially for someone who is used to larger sports/dive watches. I believe Patek introduced this watch with that audience in mind, although it is a difficult watch to procure from an AD for a first-time Patek owner. However I am glad to hear that you were able to find one at a reasonable price elsewhere.

Enjoy your new watch and share some photos with the community when you get a chance

Congratulations! I know that this watch isn't for everyone - it's not for me - but more power to Patek for trying something new and trying to expand its portfolio, while still sticking to the best of its traditions. If it weren't for this kind of initiative and invention, we would never have such popular models as the Nautilus and the Aquanaut.
