Patek 5711R or AP15400?

hi friends,
this is my first new thread here and i would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. i am a newly converted watchlover, with the passion always lingering around.
now that it came out i have tried to satisfy it two years ago with a rolex GMT2 batman and a panerai 421. well, it turns out that more needs to be done to keep the beast at bay and i decided to buy two pateks, one for my wife and one for myself. a month ago i got a 5119J for my wife (it is precisely what she wanted) and then i proceeded to choose a patek for myself. currently i have a 5396R and a 5711R on hold at a dealership. actually, i am not much of a dress watch type and have no need for the annual calendar complications so i have almost discarded of the 5396 option and had chosen the 5711R (with the 5711A unavailable within reasonable time). but a week ago i have tried on an AP RO 15400 with silver dial and i really like the watch.
well, i know the 5711R and the AP 15400 are totally different watches at different price points but i can only get one of them....
certainly a good point of the nautilus is its scarcity which will allow me to resell it at a reasonable price later.
anyway, currently i am a bit confused. your thoughts on this issue?
thanks peter

5711 over the 15400. If you were to consider a 15202, then maybe we re-think this one.

I prefer the steel 5711 because I find the blue dial more appealing than the grey one on the gold version. So, of your choices, I'd get the AP. Having said that, I prefer the "Jumbo" 15202 to the 15400. Specifically, the steel w/ blue dial.

the dial on the 5711R is brownish, maybe chocolate. the 15202 is not available new anymore, correct? and, if i am not mistaken, it does not have an in-house movement?

i like a seconds hand, so the AP 15202 ultrathin is out for me. also the 5711R has a chocolate brownish dial, not a grey one.

Patek 5711R or AP15400?

Used to have both 5711 and 15400.. both in steel and blue dial.. ended up selling the 15400. What more if i have a 5711r? (I want to have one "R" in the future!) Personally, i like the the feel and the size of the 5711 more compared to the 15400. Maybe its probably l because, at my old age of 42, my taste in watches nowadays tends to be on the side of smaller, lighter and more comfortable watches, having owned large pieces as big as a Hublot Big Bang King (48mm) and a Panerai 127 (47mm), and as heavy as a Rolex Deepsea (43mm) and an AP ROO Panda (42mm), during my younger days. Now my biggest one is an AP diver (that i seldom use). But more often than not, i found myself back to wearing my Rolex BLNR, a hulk and my pepsi on jubilee on my daily rotation. Thinking of flipping the BLNR and hulk and probably get a "smaller" ceramic daytona (coz both BLNR and hulk has maxi-cases) or one Patek on leather in the future. So i guess i'm a bit biased on your question. But remember, at the end of the day, its you who will wear it. Get whatever sings to you more. Good luck!

And it is absolutely delicious!
5711R gets my vote but then I'm not an AP fan.
The R has a lovely weight on the wrist.

OK, it's still nothing compared with the blue, IMO.

It's hard to see what threads like this one achieve. Get the one you like, who cares what anyone else prefers?

in principle you are right but i'd like to understand what people think of those watches. particularly the 5711r is not much discussed here.

Me. Too.

At this point in time, it's the only all rose/yellow gold watch I'd consider. I just tried it on last week, and it's sublime.

Between the two, definitely the 5711 unless you are getting the 15400 blue dial.

AP boutique stuff only...can't get it easily. also, i must say, i really like the silver/white dial.
in the end it is a tough decision. the patek 5711r is the nicer, more flashy watch but how often will i end up wearing it. i might feel uneasy or even not safe with it. funny though, i do not have those issues with the RG pana 421 although it is a big chunk of gold. the leather strap takes out a lot of bling compared to a full gold watch.

5711/1r is a beauty, we've had a few incomings recently too so you'll be in good company. You'll be safe with this in the UK, no one knows what it is, far less known than a Rolex, and far more likely to be taken for a Michael Kors or the like plated watch.

I prefer the SS 5711, but APs are nice, to me it depends on your wrist size and personal preference. The AP will get more public attention IMO.

PREACH!

I've had the 5711/1A and 15400 at the same time. I flipped the 15400 a week after acquiring the 5711.

Get the 5711.

Thing is...you mention 5711/1A shortly thereafter...is this a bridge an SS? You may be better off just getting on all the lists and waiting for an SS.

Gold watches you buy to keep where possible

somewhat off topic: does anyone know why the PP name and geneve stamp on the gold dial is different than on the 5711 SS blue dial?

i'm assuming the dial/case dimensions are exactly same...yet PP decided to place the signage very different between the two.

It's the new style, also there is a date surround. The white and new platinum are similar.

looks like on all models except the standard blue 5711 steel.
what's the reasoning behind that? just curious why the signage is embedded within the horizontal 'bars' on the blue...yet on all others, they're more overlaid.

I think it's all about the bling. PP have been increasing the font size of PATEK PHILIPPE on their dials for some time now. I think it's a bit of a shame, as they are supposed to be on the understated side, but what can you do?

I have several RO's and love them but my 5711 is far more elegant imo. Mine is a 5711/1a SS with the white face and I couldn't be happier. The rose gold is even more special but both are much finer watches than the Audemars could ever be. Just my experience.

The 15400 feels thick and crude compared to the 5711r. I have a 5711 steel/blue and a 5711r. I owned the 15400, but traded it in for the 5711r. It's not even close. The pateks win by a long shot.
