The watch is almost worthless at this point. You definitely need to write a strongly worded letter to someone...
But who?

Now, with originality in mind, when you do sell will you sell it to me for the original list price? Well, the original list price minus the value of those original spring bars.

That's so shocking. You must be gutted.

Take it outside and bash it to bits with a hammer. That'll show 'em. They won't mess with you again.

Honestly probably no recourse. Anything can happen in a service apparently. Which is brutal.

This is absolute nonsense . Sell that watch immediately and exit watch collecting. You’re overthinking it. Your bottle of champagne, box and papers in a dust free environment will be no additional value to a normal box and papers that are sitting in someone’s closest.

I would imagine if we put the original spring bars and the new spring bars down, you wouldn’t be able to tell us which is which. Neither would any collector. I’ve never heard of anyone talking about spring bars and collecting. They cost nothing, and have $0 in collectibility.

Ha!

Seems enough people have rumbled me...

The only "original" part I have saved for my Sub is a brand new original bracelet. Not for value but to ensure the watch will be usuable for the next generation when I'm gone, and hopefully the one after that too..

I figure that's the weakest point of the 5 digits. Other than the spring bars of course!

When I picked my Daytona up from service last year direct from the Kent (UK) service centre, the technician said the new oils used give the extended service period.

This can not be a serious post, right!?!?

I’ve been teetering on the edge lately about getting off TRF (and the watch hobby in general) as of late due to the frivolous, nonsensical postings I’ve been seeing.

If this is legit….it may just be the final straw for me.

That sucks your appreciation is wiped out. If you want to recoup your initial investment, I’ll buy the watch for what you paid. Just PM me.

RUINED! They changed the original torque level of the case back too is assume!

Personally, I seal the HEV of my deep sea because no sir, I don’t want the original air melange to exit my numerus closus haute horlogerie slab of mythril.

i feel your pain and totally empathize. i once brought in my watch for service and when they unscrewed the crown they released the original air that was trapped underneath, and let in copious amount of new oxygen, nitrogen, and other assorted compounds.

good luck. be strong.

This is the most insane thread I’ve read since joining TRF. Oil and spring bars effecting the value and collectibility of a watch! This is like saying an original 60s classic muscle car was ruined cause you found out the brake pads and air filter were changed. Complete insanity.

I've really looked after my watch and all the associated gear. The box, polishing cloth, tags, card, bottle of bubbly from the AD, age appropriate catalogue and valuation have all been stored in a dry and dust free environment. This will help future values for sure.

The watch went in for a service and I specified no polishing, obviously. Picked the watch up today. Running fine. Not polished - good. But, as I walked out I had a thought. I popped back to check and yes, they've put new spring bars on it! Must admit l lost it. I never asked for these. I guess I was also angry at myself for not saying not to change them. I told the person to go find my originals. Apparently they just get tossed away with all the others. Not tagged or anything.

I tried to explain my watch's originality and value had been ruined due to their incompetence but it didn't seem to register.

What can I do to rectify this?
Get a life, its a watch.
