Let us solemnly remember the who, and the true reason why they gave the ultimate sacrifice.

It is Tim. Thank you for asking.
All is fine with you and your family, I trust?

Your post says it all. There should be a solemnity about this day.

My father was WWII era and never talked about the Pacific experience except in broad terms.
A lifelong friend is a retired 3 star and saw too much to just banter at a BBQ

All the best

Remembering all those who made the ultimate sacrifice

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Exactly!

I'm sure those without a clue will continue to say "Happy Memorial Day".

While I agree with you Tim on the topic at hand I’d like to add, I come from a long line Vets and Cops in my family and I’m a Vet myself. Memorial Day weekend for us is to reflect on those service members we’ve all lost since the founding of this country and I personally have had family who took up arms from the Revolutionary War, Civil war and all the way to my nephew with two tours in Iraq. We’re also a mostly Irish family with an even longer history of Irish Wakes. We like to reflect, mourn and party while doing so. Just as I’d like my family to do when I go belly up.

This Saturday a bunch of our family and friends will be heading to the Jones Beach Airshow where numerous flying teams including Military aircraft from around the country, Army Parachute team and the Blue Angels( Go Navy) will perform for the massive crowd.

We’re all there for a good time filled with laughs, good food and drink while at the same time standing at attention to the flag with hand on heart or salute to the National Anthem. It’s one of those bitter sweet days that I’m confident the vast majority of our lost heroes would want and one thing they fought for.

You all have a great weekend and please remember and honor those lost so we can have this flawed but still wonderful country.

Well said Dennis, I understand.
My mom passed in December and the family wanted a wake which I was strongly against but afterwards I am so very happy we had it. Mom would have wanted it that way, laughter mixed with tears. That day certainly changed my perspective on that and I’d now want the same.
All in perspective I guess.

Sorry about your Mom that’s always a kick in the gut. Lost mine over 10 years ago and still hurts. We had a fit of back and forth laughing and crying as well, sometimes both at the same time. mom would have appreciated that herself.
