Car computers....an interesting read...
I had issues with my 2005 Jeep computer so I got a reader, plug it into the port and can read the codes and diagnostic. Pretty cool I thought...
But I didn't realize there is a war going on with car's computers and who owns the info.... https://www.wired.com/story/fight-ri...ign=pockethits

And it’s only getting worse as everyone wants a taste of every dollar you spend. What about BMW charging for access to CarPlay or Toyota disabling services after the original warranty is up unless you pay? Worse thusfar has been John Deere’s quest to own rights to the equipment farmers buy indefinitely by eliminating access to the software that runs them. If it weren’t for safety, I’d be all about driving something 50yo with some character.

Autos are becoming nothing more than an appliance people lease and/or will eventually subscribe to. Not much different than the phones we use.

One of the only reasons I haven’t ordered a new Bronco yet.
