Slightly annoyed - rant time
Called Topper Jewelers on a whim looking for the Apollo 11 50th Anniversary just now and the sales rep goes "it's funny you called - we actually just got an extra one recently over our allocation". Great, right?! Told them I'm willing to pull the trigger NOW.
"Well, we have to go down our interest list and now that you gave us your name and number, you've been added to the list." Look, I understand that there might be a list for Daytonas, GMTs and maybe even things like this...but don't tell me that you surprisingly just got one in, just to get my hopes up. I literally thought she was going to say "sold to you!" Nope.

This is definitely an option, but it's a last resort - I'll call every AD if I have to.

I recommend trusted TRF grey seller here, 'mdgrwl' w/Watch Exchange Company, he has treated me great on a few recent Omega purchases and has a great selection with the ability to source what you may want quickly at a fair price!

Well i guess at least they are sticking to what appears to be a genuine list.

How are they still popping up. I've asked this questions months ago but dealers are still getting them, didn't expect that.

Yeah that was in poor form on her part. A simple “I’d add you to the list” would have been more humane lol.
Hope you get this and looking forward to your epic pictures in an incoming thread soon. |

The initial allocation of ~ 700 to the US were all sold out. If I had to guess, Omega are bringing in unsold inventories from other parts of the world. It is unlikely that they are all sold out in all parts of the world. It is a matter of finding them. I was offered a second one a few months ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I don't care for the LE factor here; I want the watch to wear it.

There are definitely some about and as someone said earlier many boutiques or AD’s will be able to shift some in from group stock elsewhere |

Update - spoke to another AD that said they could get it in 8-10 weeks time, with no deposit required.
This was an initial conversation and they promised to get back to me by Monday to firm that up, so we'll see how it goes!

I’m surprised to hear you say this. These are my guys and have always been more than accommodating. Maybe there was a misunderstanding. I don’t think they would play games and certainly haven’t with me. Hope you get the watch either way!

That's surprising to hear about Topper.
I've bought from Rob at Topper a few times and his service has been nothing but exceptional. |

Hi friends :) Let's take a deep breath here. First, these watches were sold out LONG AGO. What happened - and this is corroborated simply by looking at both Omegawatches.com and doing some googling - is that post COVID, some stores couldn't take delivery of the final production of the watches and these were made available, along with cancelled orders, to top tier boutiques and Omega boutiques. So, first it's totally likely that places like Topper, Feldmar, etc... that are top tiers West Coast boutiques would receive one or two. Second, it's also stupendously likely that as soon as these came in these stores would consult a list of people who have expressed interest in the watch and tell them they have one. How do I know that's true? Because that happened to me! I'm the guy who got the watch that the OP is frustrated about. How did I get it? I told Rob if they other got one, to call me. And they did, months later. When they had one to sell. So, yes, interest lists are real. Fourth: sounds like you misunderstood them when you called. "I just received one" means just that - it doesn't mean they just got one in that's available. If you didn't understand, just ask for clarity, don't come on here and start flaming before giving them the benefit of the doubt. Finally, I think it's really lame that you're attacking a store for trying to do right by you. This is hardly surprising that a watch, in demand, would have a list of people waiting to get it. Just because you want it doesn't mean you get it, this is the frustration and the fun of our hobby - half of it is the hunt. So while I am very sorry that you're frustrated, I think it's a bit obnoxious and just a tad entitled to attack a store's pristine reputation just because they were literally unable to do what you asked of them in that exact moment, especially since it doesn't sound like you made any effort at all to clarify what they told you.

Read my post again and understand why I'm annoyed (I happened to bold it when I originally posted for people like you, but I guess you missed it). I understand lists; I've been at the top of them and appreciate how they work. What bothered me is the way the associate presented the information - instead of giving a customer hope by stating that they surprisingly just got one in (I know it's an LE so it isn't easy to come by), why not just tell me that you're taking names on a list and leave it at that? This was over the phone; it's not like I was in the showroom looking at an allocated piece in the display that I couldn't have. She literally led off by stating "funny you should ask, we just got one in above the number that we thought we'd get" and left it at that. I had to ask if I could purchase it before she told me I could be added to the list. You're telling me that's good customer engagement? Next time you feel like getting on your high horse, put yourself in the other customer's shoes and think before responding.

OP it doesn’t sound like they were trying to get your hopes up. Quite the opposite. It sounds like they were trying to give you hope! As in, another one could come in at any time, and if so it would have your name on it. Fact is this is a hot watch - surprising for an Omega LE, I know - and they’re not readily available at ADs. Of course, you can always buy from a trusted seller if you’d rather not wait.

They did nothing to you. Did Topper take your money and not deliver? no. Did they treat you disrespectfully? You seem to think so, but it sure sounds like that's splitting a pretty thin hair, and that's one hell of a benefit of the doubt I'm giving there. Did they make a promise and not deliver? Did they keep you waiting a terribly long time beyond what was promised? Did they force a bundle or anything like that? No, no and no. Did they tell you that one had come in to demonstrate that you had a shot at one and offer to call you if they get another of the reference you want? Yep. For shame! So yeah, I'm standing by what I wrote. Hope you find the watch you want and in future, before you come on here and get on your high horse, put yourself in the business' shoes before responding. |

In typical AD fashion, I wonder if they were hoping you'd ask what it would take to get up that list....to which they'd hint heavily at bundling

Fortunately Toppers doesn’t pull that kind of BS. I’ve bought from them from time to time - including waiting - and never have they ever pulled any shady or high pressure sales tactics. One of the great things of Toppers - they are community minded.

This is a watch forum, and I'm going to give my opinion about watch-related items. I've dealt with Topper in the past and it was fine; I did not drag their name through the mud but simply reported what I experienced. Your last sentence makes absolutely no sense.

But whatever, you're right, it's a forum, so share away. But recognize that that doesn't hold you harmless from being shut down, too. And no, I don't work for them, I just respect them. There are precious few ADs out there that work their butts off as hard as Topper does for their customers, so yes, while I would hold them accountable if they truly did wrong by someone, I will defend them vigorously when attacked. |
