Rolex GMT 1675/8

Dear Members,

I come to you to find some advice about a potential purchase I am considering and for which I have few doubts.

This watch is advertised as being unpolished, with movement 1575 (base 1570) non hackable.
The ref number matches the year when Rolex shifted to hackable movement (circa 1970).

The dial might have been serviced. At least it is my opinion. Looking for reference on gmtmaster1675 website , that's what it would suggest.

I have concerns about the case, especially given that this watch is being sold as unpolished initially. The case looks worn out, or tempered with. Hallmarks on the back of the case suggest it has been used extensively.

Are there any red flags, concerns, details that I have not mentioned, that would arouse suspicion here ?

I am not vintage Rolex (even non vintage) specialist and given the substantial money asked for this piece I am being extra careful.

All opinion and help more than welcome.

Many thanks to all

My favorite watch, ever. But not very many people will click on a PDF file from someone who just put up their first post. Why don't you upload them to flickr or something like that and then you can embed the pics in your post.

OP, you can post .jpg images as attachments to your posts beginning with your first post on TRF if they don't exceed a file size of 293 kiloBytes.

Embedding attachments in Rolex Forums posts

Here are instructions for attaching a .jpg image to your post. It must be less than 293 kiloBytes in size, so if it's larger than that you'll have to resize it using one of the free online apps on the net like https://www.resize2mail.com/. Also, you must include some text in the post; a short sentence will do.

1. Click on "Post Reply" at the bottom of the last post in the thread.

2. In the "Additional Options" window, click on "Manage Attachments."

3. In the window that opens, click the top "Choose File" and then enter the file name of the .jpg file on your hard drive you want to embed in your post. Click "Upload." If your file is too large you will be told, and you'll have to reduce the file size below 293 kB.

4. Close that window, click "Preview Post" to preview your post, and if it looks OK click "Submit Reply."

Here's an example of a 93.7kB attached .jpg image:

Here is one for you. Check out this thread here on TRF regarding an "unpolished" 1675/8.

Hi @ldechabannes ,
The case:
The case still has good proportions (fat case would say a dealer). However, I would not conclude it's never been polished, especially because it lost most of its original finishing. For a truly unpolished 1675/8 case, see Springer's link above.

The dial:
Is it original to the watch? it all depends on your watch's serial (production year)
Your dial is a mark 5. If the watch's serial is below the 5m, then it's a replacement.
Tritium on the hands also look a bit lighter than the dial's tritium.

Enjoy the hunt ;)
