Red 1680
Hey all I'm looking to dip my toe into the vintage world but it's such a mine field. I have seen this red 1680, does it look ok. There looks like dirt on the chapter ring.
Cheers Rich

From my experience, the dirt or rust you see is probably not on the "chapter ring" but is usually found on the top of the case where the retaining ring secures the crystal. The "crud" is being reflected and magnified by the crystal.

I am by no means an expert, but I would be concerned about that case. Seems over polished and asymmetrical, demonstrated by the spring bar protruding out of the 1 o'clock lug.

Case definitely overpolished. I don't judge it by the springbars because they could be the wrong size. But those lugs look thin to me, and yes, not entirely even. It's a shame. Otherwise I love the look of the watch.

i love that dial and hands !
i hate it when a dealer doesn't even take the time to clean the dirt from a > 10K watch... Case is not realy in shape that's a big minus bracelet is right endlinks are wrong insert looks great it all depends on what you are looking for and what you are willing to pay ? check serial numbers check case back check for corrosion or pittin on the back of the case and caseback in other words do your homework if you are interested in buying it

I think this is a major issue with the design of pretty much all Rolex cases: the high-polished case sides. Omegas (at least modern ones) have brushed sides and therefore need much less frequent refinishing of the case sides which eventually thins the lugs.
I do like that a Rolex watch case is shiny and eye-catching from under the cuff etc., but at a great cost as they tend to get polished to death by techs over the years... |

The watch does come with box and papers so that's a plus. I am concerned with the lugs.

I'm no expert so don't want to be stinged. That's why I'm asking for advice.

Perhaps a great project watch for someone who has a decent 3.x mil serial case?

What's that dent in the side of the case? Or it is just the reflection.

I think it's a decent example. Looks like original dial, bezel, replacement crown, braclet is correct.
It all comes down to the asking price. |

As others said, a bit overpolished for me. However, it does depends on price and what you want. The 'dirt' is rust and very common. Mine has the same issue.
