1966 Submariner 5513

Hi all this is a 1.4m serial 5513 which dates it to about 1966. I am under the impression it's meant to have a meters first dial. Is this correct or is it man to have a ft first.

Cheers

Rich

It should have a Meters First Dial for sure and with a 1.4 million serial number it's also close to the Gilt Dial range.

It is not a modern service Dial.I think it's a Seriff Dial from the early 1970's.

I believe it is a seriff dial. Would this affect the value of the watch ?

Yes,It will lower the value of the watch by the cost of a correct Dial.If it's just a matte MF Dial it's not that bad,If it was a Gilt Dial then You are looking at big Bucks.

As others have stated, definitely came with a MF dial. Really hard to evaluate whether came with a gilt or matte 1.4 serial could be either. This is my birth year and the 66 gilt is my grail piece, so spent a lot of time researching this reference.

I've always wondered, is there ANY way at all to determine if a watch like this (or, another '66 with a borderline serial number) was gilt or matte? Or, is it pure speculation?

Seems to be pure speculation to me.
