2017 EXPLORER 214270 or SUBMARINER 114060?

This thread needs more photos, for future reference of course. :-)

Some comparison shots, but factor in the nato on height.

Not quite certain how numbers and sticks on a black dial is duller than stick and circular plots on a black dial?

Yesterday I bought an explorer 1. For me, I don't dive, I like a smaller, less noticable watch, and the dealer is putting it on a rubber strap which is a personal like. There no wrong choice as both are excellent. I liked the suggestion of visualizing the choices on the wrist at different times of the day to help decide.

By the way, I purchased at my local small town ad where I tried on my choices several times and am happy with the service and price. Nothing beats trying them both.

I would try to include photos if i am allowed to.

So what do you think of these two models? Would you choose one over the other? This is solely IMO but I find the Submariner a bit boring compared to the Explorer now with the lumed 3,6,9. Probably, due to the fact you see Submariner look-alikes everywhere nowadays it's like its lost its prestige. I know on the contrary the Explorer isn't copied that much if not at all compared to the Sub. I very much wanted a Sub since the past year or so however I see myself leaning back and forth towards to Explorer and the Sub whenever I get to try them at ADs. Price difference is about a thousand dollars or 600 USD in where I am living so that's not an issue.

No comparison. Zero. Sub. How is this even a question?

Explorer... I love the sub, but the maxi case was the deal breaker. Some people love the Sub for all the right reasons, some people love the sub because tits been ingrained in them to believe it's the best watch to ever exist... This was also a deterrent for me, personally.

The Sub has not lost prestige because it's been copied over and over. Copied does not equal duplicated. Also, referring to another post you asked about future value... that will be determined by the purchaser and not the value a seller puts on the watch. Something is worth only what someone will pay for it.

Both watches are great.

In my opinion only the Sub no-date can compete with the Explorer! The Sub with date loses the fight hands down every time.

Fan of both watches but if I had to chose one the classic non date Sub wins. It's simple and aesthetically pleasing.

Rub a dub dub... I like the Sub.

I had a few dive watches with the rotating bezel and I rarely if not, at all, use it to time my daily errands. Thanks for your input! To me, the bezel is not a selling point. The Cerachrom on the bezel might be a selling point. To quote OP!!!

For me , the smooth bezel in the explorer is a non starter .

I went with the Explorer. When comparing the two I found the Sub dial looked small because of the bezel, and the case just felt too big. Probably the main reason for me was that the Explorer covers all bases a lot more elegantly than the Sub, so worked for me as my first watch. You know it will last forever, can wear it swimming or with a suit. Perfect really.

Now I'm looking for watch number two and I keep looking at the Sub but, as much as I would like to have one, it just doesn't sing to me. I guess that's the point though, try both on, one will tell you it is the one.

Definitely take into consideration the glidelock of the Sub. It is worth it on that alone.
I do like the lumed markers of the newer explorer - certainly.

For me really depends... My humble collection is pretty small in comparison to many on the forums but I have both the SubC (bought in 2015) and just recently added an Exp I about 2 weeks ago. Really just a couple days since I bought it literally right before I left for 2 weeks on a business trip. Back on topic... Both are comfortable, however I've been wearing the SubC on a NATO for the last couple years so not really a comparison. It really depends on how you will wear the watch. Ultimately it is your decision and which watch fits your lifestyle better is the one to get. The SubC bezel is useful to time things and helps keeps scratches away, but the EXP I does have more of an elegant look and the lugs are a bit thinner which allows it to play a little better if you need to dress up a bit.

I own the 214270 now and owned the 114060 in the past. You cannot go wrong with either!
