There are still deals to be had for the patient buyer.

As to the quality of the movement when I turn the watch over it says the same thing as my rolex it's not like we're missing out on a beautiful movement housed in a exhibition case back it's never made me late to a meeting.

I disagree as I can totally relate to Tudor Guy. I hate to wear what everybody and their mother wears. I love that you don't see much Tudors around. I mean every, every, everybody has a Rolex. At least here in NYC.

Not a bubble on this one. Hard to find when I bought it 5 yeas ago. Price is up 2X since, but still much less than the snowflake.

How's waiting on that bubble going for you mate? As long as there's spending money to be had with a large percentage of people, Rolex and Tudor prices will only climb. Remember, these were made in much lower numbers than their Rolex counterparts. And when it comes to Subs, isn't it all just a numbers game?

currently bidding on a 79090 with service papers. It is much harder to find a Tudor sub and they are getting ridiculously expensive.

Why do Tudor Submariners cost so much?

Your overthinking it. You have to stop comparing brands. I love my Rolexes but I collect other desirable vintage many that are rarer and sell at higher prices than comparable Rolex models like Heuer and others. Tudor is no different.

As a whole, Tudor designs haven't aged as well as Rolex, but the Sub and a few other models have aged comparably well and are often rarer. And thus their desirability. The movement has nothing to do with it.

Think Tudor Subs are overpriced? Try to find a good condition home plate Tudor Monte Carlo! I'd personally have one of these over almost any vintage Rolex (except maybe a blueberry GMT )

Lastly, most major governments have printed a ton of money to stay out of recession and prop up the markets that have over doubled in value recently. Unless we see a major market correction (which is always possible), I don't see prices going down. Money easily made is always easily spent. Sucks for the rest of us though which is why I enjoy vintage TRF where I can live vicariously through some of my more well healed TRF friends!

Enjoy the hunt!

Ah I missed this thread!!
I will let the pictures do the talking as to WHY!
The 7928 PCG is undoubtedly my personal favorite sub reference.

I think you have it the wrong way around.
The supply of Tudor Subs is much lower than Rolex.
I am going to take a wild guess. 10 to 1, Rolex to Tudor, on the vintage side.

How much does a mint, complete, and unpolished matt dial acrylic Rolex Sub cost? Definitely not the same as a 79090 in the same condition. It's probably more like 300% more expensive. In fact, you could buy a NOS 79090 for less than a beater 1680.

Uh... commenting on a super old post - sorry.

Ha. I just saw that. To answer the question about Tudor sub costs, this, about 2 years ago, complete set as close to perfect as I have ever seen is about $4000. Now, it would take substantially more than that to buy this one.

Lovely. Last summer I was privately offered a really clean perfect patina, hardly polished (it would probably get peddled on the forums as "unpolished"), blue 79090 for $3400. I passed because it was watch only and I've only ever bought complete sets.

I regret that choice... a lot. Now a tired black head only 79090 would cost more.

Six years ago, I was passed along mine from an In-Law "72" serial dated Snowflake. Worn it daily and it doesn't miss....I'm quite impressed.

It seems prices have nearly doubled over the last five years 2012-2017 (depending on condition).

Because you'll never find a Rolex that looks like this, and you'll never find a non-Rolex case that wears the same as the Oysters! My first watch ever was a 7016/0 Tudor and the love has only grown since then.

My first nice watch was a blue tudor lollipop sub. I got it when I was around 14 and wore it daily for a long time. Its been a safe queen for abt 20 yrs. The round lame in the hour hand has fallen out and needs to be fixed. I will never sell it. It was my "lucky" watch. I think my father paid $500 for it.

Because Rolex never brought this out as a submariner & they weren't as popular as black bezel and dials . Its the relative rarity of them and the blueness that makes this watch so special to me . I would sell all my Rolex before this one .

Ha, I think I phrased it poorly. The gist being that Tudors are popular because Rolex didn't offer designs like the Tudor Subs, PLUS no other company outside of Rolex/Tudor has been able to replicate the feel of an oyster case and bracelet, which is the best in the world of sports watches IMO. So if you want the feel of an oyster case with looks that are unavailable in Subs/SDs, Tudor is the only choice for you!

That's a superb example. I'm afraid I missed the boat on one like that. It's been a long time since I've seen one so nice show up.

Thank you for your comment, it's a 89 79090 . Bought it for a ridiculously low price many years ago now .My partner wears it as her daily watch and it was always draws comments & when we visited Rolex AD in NYC earlier this year it caused quite a stir & had all staff wanting to try it on as most hadn't even seen one before .
