Patek 5167 or 15202

Looking for people thoughts here as I;m going to pull the trigger on one of these shortly. My usual daily driver currently is a BLNR.

I can get the aqua now at a bit of a discount while I can get a 15202 in the next month at full price from a boutique. I know I'll get both eventually but can only get ONE for now. Love both probably equally however I have a desk job and my BLNR bracelet has been "well loved" aka pretty scratched. Not sure how the 15202 will hold up there. The Patek will be more under the radar and hold up better under desk scratches but the 150202 is more aesthically appealing to me I think, however, more attention grabbing.

I've also listed this in the patek forum since I'm sure I'll get biased views in eaach

if you are OK with a rubber strap i would go 5167. I love my 5164 and the rubber strap is awesome.

I love the 15202 as well but there is no doubt a PP rubber strap will look better over time vs any steel bracelet if scuffs and dings bother you.

For me, the Aquanauts on rubber are pretty much the only rubber strap watches that actually look good with a suit so there is that too which separates them from other watches on rubber.

On looks alone though the 15202 probably comes out a bit ahead, but for versatility the PP wins.

This helps. I like the concept/versatility of rubber and it's under the radar at work. One of the reasons the 44TI isn't an option

Thanks

Hard to say, the bezel on the PP will look pretty mingy in no time. I would go with the 15202 and wear long sleeved shirts.

The PP IMHO looks best in shorts and flip flops. I know it is subjective but that rubber strap isn't always going to look as it does new!

ahh... the famous TRF write in "option 3"

This would be my vote as well 100%, though i may do the 5164 first.

The dial on the 5164 is more interesting and the travel time compilation if you have a need for it is amazing.

Ah yes, like that too but it's a 10k jump and I already have a gmt. Is it worth it? Not sure.

depends. I much prefer it to a 24h GMT 2nd time zone because as hard as i try i can't think in 24 hours, so i am constantly doing the math to figure out the 2nd timezone time in 12 hour time.

The patek is super easy and intuitive especially with the day/night indicator vs an AM/PM indication especially with the color transition that takes place over about 3 hours from daylight to darkness hours and then again from darkness to daylight. I didn't think i would prefer day/night indications vs am/pm but it is a much more intuitive way to tell the time to me.

I'm also debating between these two watches for my next purchase. Can't make up my mind as I think both are incredible. Like you, I think I will purchase both within the next year, the question is which to purchase first.

I'm leaning towards the AP 15202 as I already have an AP Diver and only have one "dressier watch" in an FPJ CB.

Only reason I can't let go of the 5167 is because I don't own a PP yet and Paul McCartney owned/s a 5167 which I think is super cool. Im a sucker for that kinda thing.

Bingo! It's it's good enough for sir paul I'm good with it under any circumstance. Full disclosure I bought it previously and sold it and am regretting it.

I love the ap dial and bracelet tho. So silky

I've got both the 15202 and 5167. Love both!

For my lifestyle, I get a lot more wear out of the 5167. It is very under-the-radar, but very elegant at the same time. I was recently on vacation and wore it the whole time, on the subways, in neighborhoods good and bad. No one, except true watch fans, gives it a second look. Also, it is probably the most comfortable watch I've worn. The rubber strap is also great for the work enviroment as it does not get scratched by desks.

The 15202 is amazing. The AP bracelet, IMO, is the best in the watch game. It is way flashier though. The way it sparkles, you can see it from across the room. But I don't want it to get all scratched up, and often times I need to be more low key (in the office, or walking around in not-great neighborhoods), so that is why I wear the 5167 more. Hope that helps.

Apprciate this...I plan on getting both. Just probably a year apart because that's all the wife will let me do right now lol. Is there one that you would go for first? Was price an issue for you? Lets assume there's a $5k difference between the two.

Is list too much to pay for the jumbo or is that standard. I guess if it's boutique there's no negotiating...but at least has a 5 yr warranty

Actually $28-29k. I know dealers who have paid $26k for used ones.

Looks like there is a big swing in prices. My new was a hair over $29K

And 15202 and 5164 is the best, but I may be biased. I will be getting rid of my BLNR as the GMT function on the 5164 is far superior. I would keep both but the BLNR gets zero wrist time

They have moved up much like all other SS Patek sports watches and also not many around here for sale. Last one I saw DavidSW sell in April here used was $28,950.

I bought one missing original papers for 22.5 awhile back. Sent it back due to an issue.

I wish I had kept it.

There are some pictures floating around on the net of a 15202 mounted on an oem AP rubber strap with deployant; think one has to source the proper plots, but it looks pretty neat. Just another thing to consider if you want optionality..

Conversely, 5167 can be had on a bracelet too, but looks a bit awkward in my opinion. The 15202 bracelet looks far sleeker and more sophisticated, i think.

As much as I like the 5167, I prefer the 15202ST. Either would make you very happy, for sure.

Your call, of course. People around here, me included, clearly have a bias for iconic watches, which in this case is the 15202 as it is the direct descendant of the Genta-icon that started the entire ss luxury epoch.

I really like the 5167, but there is something just a tad off on the design, which makes it an acquired taste. It is a PP trough and through, even if some people view it as an entry level piece. Design-wise I actually find the earlier version #5065 a bit more attractive and interesting (but the modern one is more practical and has a much better movement).

Oh well, sorry for the rant, perhaps I am not of much help... Just follow the normal route - ignore what other people think - try on both and then get the one that sings the most to you!
