114060 for 214270?

Seriously considering flipping my sub 114060 for explorer 214279. When I first purchased the sub, I loved it. But lately the width of the lugs have been bothering me. Any advice?

Well, I can't offer any advice other than the 214270 is an extremely comfortable watch to wear. With its tapered lugs, it certainly would alleviate your concern.

I have both (actually my Sub is a 14060m) and I much prefer my Explorer, short hands and all. Both watches are reliable and durable. The difference is the Explorer is much more versatile.

I used to have 16610 and it was super comfortable and the height wasn't bad. As a wearer of shirt and ties 3x a week, I find the submariner 114060 to not fit under cuff comfortable. I love the watch but just feel the 214270 to be more versatile

While not a sub, I had the same issue with Tudor Black Bay and the lugs. Off the bracelet the issue became gradually greater. Eventually I flipped it for guess what... An Explorer. Love the Explorer.

As much as I like rhe the Explorer I wouldn't do that move.

But at the end of the day, what really matters is for you to be happy with what you own.

I love my 114060 and its fat lugs but if it's bothering you then it's probably time to move on...hope you don't regret it though.

I really like the way the lugs frame the bezel on the subC.

I don't own a 114060, but the 214270 is a VERY comfortable watch and more versatile.

Wide lugs don't me but if it does the Exp1 Mk II is a most excellent choice!

How long have you had your Sub?

I've had the same Sub in the past and am contemplating purchasing another. And I just got the explorer a couple of weeks ago. I love the explorer and it is very comfortable. I wouldn't trade it for the sub but I would add submariner, as these two watches are in my opinion the best two six digit models without the date function. I found that the lugs on the Sub were not a big issue in person on my wrist, but the photos online exaggerate them quite a bit. The explorer may have a slight edge in comfort, due to the smaller crown, but it's not a total deal breaker.

I've had the watch since April. Every Rolex I previously owned was 5 digit rolexes. After a short abscence of not owning a Rolex, decided on the 114060. And yes I agree, phot online do exaggerate the lugs, I can't help but feel the case is too wide. Love the fit and finish of the watch, but lately can't get past lugs and crown guards.

These are the reasons I went with a 16600 instead of a new sub or SD. I have a 214270 and it is very comfortable. I would flip the sub for an Explorer if you're not digging the sub. Life is short, wear what you like.

Great shot. The more I see it, the more I want it. To me it's the most similar to the 5 digit rolexes with the build of the modern rolexes.

Absolutely agree. 214270 is the only 6 digit I both like and own. The bloated lugs on the 114060 (and Submariner Date as well as the GMT) bother me as well.

The SD 16600 is really a fantastic piece. That is one I want to own again. The 16600 and the 16570 are my favorite 5 digit sports models.

Used to own both, I miss the Explorer more.

So simple, comfortable, classic, can dress up or down (something a watch with a big ceramic bezel can't do in my mind).

I've always been a Submariner guy. Always. I find myself going away from them lately. I don't dislike them at all. I'm just kind of over them. At least right now. I know blasphemy right I think the 214270 is cool, clean and classic. It's a bit classy too. Very comfortable and under the radar. Plus you don't see one every time you turn around on someone else's wrist. Almost came close to buying it a couple times. I wish I did a few months ago but that's another story.

They're both classics--the Explorer is certainly on my list of watches to acquire at some point. However, unless you have a one Rolex or one watch rule, I wouldn't make that move. The Sub is the quintessential diver's watch, and they're not going to get any cheaper in the future. The Explorer was just updated--it's probably going to be around for long after you save up the funds to buy one. And if you get the Explorer and find yourself never wearing the Sub again after a few years, THAT might be the time to sell it. Most likely, it will have retained its value--and perhaps then some.

Same here. Always been a sub guy. At first loved it, but the more I dissected it, the more I found dislikes in the case. I'm leaning towards explorer.

Both 114060 & 214270 are excellent watches and while I prefer the Sub/diver look, the Explorer 214270 is more comfortable.
